Blast from the past: Bill Gates checking out Nokia Desktop Computers 30 years ago
30 years ago, back in the 80s (OMG, so old :/) Bill Gates was checking out Nokia’s latest desktop computers.
These were the MikroMikko personal computer and competition to the Microsoft powered IBM line of computers.Â
During the Finnish economic depression, as part of streamlining of its operations, it got rid of the computer business and sold to ICL which later ended up at Fujitsu, to then Fujitsu-Siemens, only shutting down their factory in Espoo in March 2000 (I did not know that even existed).
IBM bowed out of the computer business and Microsoft bought Nokia’s Devices and Services after a close partnership and an old executive, Stephen Elop, making trips back and forth as VP of MS, CEO of Nokia and back to EVP at MS. Maybe this is his theme tune.
The first version of the MikroMikko ?
2 MHz! Â With 64KB of RAM!
Dante D’Orazio  is wrong about those glasses falling out of style – them hipsters are trying to revive that.
