Steve and Rafe on the Nokia Lumia 1030, Xenon vs LED

A couple of posts to highlight from AAWP. First up it’s Steve Litchfield’s thoughts on the Nokia Lumia 1030 and why this Xenon-free cameraphone won’t be making it to 2015.

The expects that this potential 5 incher is just one of a queue of prototypes that gets made but doesn’t make it out the door. Whilst he doesn’t believe it’s a 50MP unit, he does think it could be as big, if not bigger than the 1020.

As much as Steve and I are fans of Xenon, Steve suggests that as computational imaging is playing a bigger part in Lumia Camera, it rules out the use of Xenon.

Although LED and a big sensor may never achieve those low-light-freeze that the likes of the N82, N8, 808 and 1020 are capable of, a large enough sensor and latest gen LED could take a burst of images (oversampled to reduce noise) and produce a similar sort of end product.
