Xbox One controllers to ship with Oculus Rift – Sneak Peek demo
Microsoft’s Hololens is augmented reality on roids. Oculus Rift on the other hand aims to brings virtual reality to the masses. Both are awesome in their own right.
It seemed like they’d be on opposing sides but it’s nice to see them working together. Oculus has a steam like platform called Home, but you can also stream Xbox One games to the rift. There’s also native support for Windows 10.
Check out this sneak peek video. The left is a screen but the whole thing (room and screen) are images on the VR headset. Useful if you’re limited in space perhaps but don’t want everything you see to simply be just the screen.
I haven’t tried Hololens but the concepts look fantastic. Having that additional layer onto real life and being able to interact with it seems to have so much genuinely fascinating possibilities. I’ve tried google cardboard and that was actually really cool. It’s a bit disorientating at first but you can really feel like you’re somewhere else at times. The only difficulty really was interacting with the environment.
