When I first looked at the video, I wasn’t actually sure it was meant to be a phone app due to the mass of detail on screen but it is. And it’s for you, S60 5th Edition users. This is a drum machine -  essentially what you’re doing is arranging a pattern of beats/instruments [...]

Air Hockey. You versus the phone as you try and score a goal with the virtual air lifted puck. First to 5 wins and each round goes to a higher level with slightly harder opponents. It’s really enjoyable (I love Air Hockey at arcades!) and great for those short distractions. It’s well worth a download. [...]

I think these games are S60 5th Edition unless they’ve been updated for Symbian^3 – either way both users will be able to download these apps from the Ovi Store. Sonic Jump Can’t seem to find it on Ovi Store but it was there.   Tropical Towers Save the monkeys! Only you can help them [...]

Right, as battery meters and monitors go – they’re often quite boring, just telling you how much you have left by a visual indicator. If you’re lucky it might give an estimate in time remaining based on current usage.   With the Nokia Battery Monitor, it really does monitor your power usage based on what [...]

I didn’t mean to do this comparison (Sorry for the mess on the wall) but on the early hours of the morning I was just checking video on N97 to run out its battery(to test out the Powermat wireless charger for review) and noticed that the N97 digital zoom and general video quality was sooo bad in comparison to [...]

“Everybody says, that Symbian^3 hasn’t changed, but look for yourself!” I’m surprised no such detailed comparison has been done. Actually planned to do it myself this weekend but caught up on coursework (which I’m half doing as I write this). But jenjaman has done an excellent job and split it into a four round match [...]

wolftongren‘s demoes on video a new ThinkChange app called Maze lock. Basically, if you’ve seen how Android phones unlocked with a predefined numeric key swipe, this is pretty much like that. Here’s a video demo of a game called Cannon Ball on the Nokia N8. You can get it from the Ovi Store (in some places it may be free) but for UK it’s £1. I think it’s S60 5th Ed so it will work on N97/N97 mini/X6/5800/5230/5250/C6-00 etc. The Ultimate 111

On my twitterfeed, @Sheridan01 mentionoed he was updating his N97. It wasn’t the wrongly publicised V30 that Nokia mistakingly said was available, but a new firmware update is available nonetheless,  from v21.0.045 to v22.0.110. I did mine OTA, just hit *#0000# and update from there. It’ll take 5 minutes depending on your connection. Not checked [...]

An experimental app from Nokia Research Centre, Beta Labs allows the automatic splitting of your videos into key frames thus making it really easy to find the thumbnail of a particular scene and quickly jump to it, instead of having to aimlessly drag the seek bar. Whilst this would of course be useful for movies [...]

If I had to guess, I suggest that very few readers of this blog would expect to come across a low quality image of an old Psion Series 5mx at the top of an article. Of course, we should never forget that Symbian, at the heart of so many modern Nokia devices, has its roots in [...]
