The MyPhone application, infamous for turning the 5800 (now any s60 5th edition phone, i.e. N97, i8910) into iPhone wannabes has gone another step further with this update by bringing us 4×5 columns as an option.

3x4 on myphone, still gets you 3 more icons than the standard UI menu - ZOMGitsCJ

I wish S60 5th edition supported this natively, or like this application at least gave you the option. Not only is screen realty wasted by having just 12 icons on the page instead of 20, we get this silly fat options bar on the side. Back and options – couldn’t that have been accomplished by the green and red button? The only time that sidebar is useful is within applications, music/browsing (and in browsing it’s often better when it hides itself so you can use it full screen)

Current menu wastes at least 3 icon spaces with the fat side bar at wastes 8 icon spaces by not having a 4x5 grid - Slashgear

So, already, the MyPhone application is not just for people wanting their 5th edition S60 handsets to look more like Apple’s wonder child, but for others who want a more functional and space efficient menu.

On top of previous features, like the working unlock swipe/iPhone dialer screen etc, new features now include a sketch pad and autolock.

Slide to Unlock. Probably the best gesture on the iPhone - also on your Nokia 5800!

Priced at £12.99, if you want to try it out for free first, you can download the trial here..
