Video: Preview of the ferocious 1GHz Toshiba TG01

With a lot of whinging about the “meek” 434 MHz processor in the Nokia N97, if you really just want to show off some numbers, Toshiba offers 1GHz of Qualcomm Snapdragon goodness in their TG01 handset, complete with a whopping 4.1 inch screen in 480×800 resolution!

PocketPCItalia show off the TG01 in their latest video demo, demonstrating the 3.2MP camera, accelerometer and GPS with TomTom. It’s very sleek and slim too, at only 9.9mm.  Whilst the hardware is really good, the Toshiba TG01 is severely let down by their UI.

Just look at that eye-stabbing tripple-spinning nightmare of menu/quick access icon stripes.  That homescreen is absolutely disgusting! Watching it unecessarily spin would give you nausea like as if you’d just stepped off the world’s most intense roller coaster.

Annoying homescreen aside, the Toshiba TG01 has so much potential to be an amazing phone. It’s just whether  the Toshiba TG01 can deliver an intuitive and touch optimised UI so consumers can take full advantage of all of its features. If they succeed, then borrowing a description of the N97 and N95,  TG01 is “the most powerful, multisensory mobile computer in existance” and indeed, “what computers have become”.
