Video: New theme effects for your Nokia N97!

Update: Correct video embedded

____

A few users had been disappointed with the lack of decent theme effects on their N97. They’ve seen the demo video, and a few early hands on of preproduction devices which implied that end users would be getting something similar too.

Instead, the theme effects are all but none existant. The only nice looking animation is the swipe (in homescreen).

Transitions from portrait to landscape are dull and overall theme effects aren’t worth the slight slow down in performance when you turn it on (Settings>Themes>Theme Effect>On/Off)

Over at the Symbian Blog, Vaibhav Sharma has put together both a tutorial and a demo video of some really nifty theme animations for your N97.

  • Swipe transitions (not just for homescreen)
  • Actual visual screen rotation animation (landscape to portrait etc)
  • Zoom style transitions
  • Slide up menu animation (same as how options/call dialler shows up)

Fingers crossed the next firmware update brings something close  for N97 users.

Whilst you wait, in the mean time, you can check out the instructions on how to get this on your N97, at theSymbianBlog.

Caution:

  • This will take some time to install. It’s not just an app or a one click update
  • This may have stability issues and may slow down your N97
  • Try at your own risk.
