In this Nokia N8 hands on by technoportalua you’ll see Symbian^3 looking much better than ever:

  • Very fast, lag free.
  • At 0:50 you’ll notice this guy has three hands :p
  • Transitions:
    • between opening applications
    • opening menu
    • within music player (side sliding)
    • within gallery (side sliding)
    • going back/exiting
    • bringing up menu buttons in  gallery (some sort of ripple effect)
    • PLEASE CAN WE HAVE PROPER ROTATE TRANSITION where you can see the screen physically turning (if we can’t just give us super fast rotate. Any other transition looks bad. Fade in fade out makes it look laggy)
  • Pinch and zoom in photos very smooth
  • Gallery browsing pretty quick
  • Silky smooth music player (in yesterday’s video with Michael Hell, he’s got a bucket load of music tracks/albums and cover flow is just as smooth – if not nicer as you can see letter grouping!)
  • The only thing that takes time to load is maps (5 seconds) – but Notice the instant GPS lock!

I think it’s looking pretty good. And still about 8 weeks of polishing to go!

(Note: Animated wallpaper not shown in this demo but can be seen in tnkgrl’s video demo.)
