Video: Nokia N8 on (Russian) TV?
I’ve no idea what’s being said here or whether this is an actual TV station in Russia (and if that, one of the major ones or a cable channel/web channel), but it looks like this Nokia N8 demo could have been broadcast over a TV network.

- That integrated social networks thing still doesn’t seem to have kinetic scrolling.
- 182MB free phone memory. Hmmm – I hope this will be enough C memory (barely 50mb in N97) and that apps are saved to mass memory by default.
- I wonder if like the N900 when on TV out you can lock the screen to save battery or if like Symbian, locking the screen makes TV out go black.
- Note that in nearly all but the very first couple of Nokia N8 demoes, the camera UI is hardly ever shown. I hope that means Nokia are still tweaking it as it has much to improve in order to make those settings/options easily usable (not buried)
Have you seen the Nokia N8 appear on TV where you are? (As an unreleased device, appearance is understandably extra rare)
I take it many of the N8′s out there for the press have different versions of firmware? as some seem real fast and others like my n97
Yup. Unless there’s a may to automatically force update, all these N8s are probably under different firmwares.
Even at the Nokia event in Singapore, handsets were performing at different levels to each other. Some fast and nippy, stable, whilst others crashed.
182 should be adequate when you consider the memory management and supposed writeable data paging aka virtual memory that S^3 is supposed to support but then again, given the N97 debacle I wouldnt be so sure.

It must be a sin for Nokia to put extra ram in symbian devices. Symbian is the most mature mobile platform. But an unrewarding experience to depend on Nokia’s product decision makers. The OVI desktop is another big negative on Symbian’s image.
All I am trying to say is “Again Symbian is not at fault”
It pains me to agree that these cost cutting measures were not properly considered in the final LONGEVITY of the device’s performance.
Some argue that the N8 has enough for the majority of its target market. But why just “enough”?
N900 (with Maemo 5) flies with just 256mb RAM (though it does have +768mb virtual RAM). i8910 seems to run fine with 256mb – but with future apps that are more RAM hungry, multitasking those may prove difficult.

It’s a swap to be specific.Also don’t forget Maemo5 is linux-based system multytasking and doesn’t work the same as on symbian devices.

A future flagship of communicators by world market leader is already in Moscow. Nokia has introduced N8. However, the index is glued up and phone isn’t in the market yet and its software is constantly changed.Actually,software is what should have been if not a revolution but at minimum a big step forward.At least for Nokia.
N8 is the first phone based on Symbian^3. The most noticable changes from customer point of view are a few desktops and all of them can be customized with widgets. There are only 3 desktops but it’s a great improvement compared to the previous versions of Symbian.Multi-touch appeared across almost all applications.
The phone has integration with social services.There is an e-mail client and application called webTV for playing streaming video from tv-stations’ sites.
All in all the most part of improvements is implementation of possiblilities that has been used in other operating systems for a few years.However,it’s doubtful it can help with share of the market increase for Nokia.
Speaking to the hardware,N8 and Symbian^3 introduces the capability of disp;aying video and sound on TV with HDMI(supported HD and 5.1 multichannel sound),that makes the phone a pocket home-theater player.It’s not clear whether it becomes a popular feature considering the unusual HDMI-port size and constant need of carrying the special cable with you to show the power of the phone.
Another cable will allow customers to connect any USB flash-drive to the N8 to increase storage capability.The phone has 16Gb of internal memory and microSD slot.
It could be possible to call the phone thin but it has 12 mpx camera built on top of the phone body.
The phone should be for sale right afrer the new OS and its russian version gets rid of bugs.So it’s approximately at the end of the summer.
i’am from russia. in this video talking about nokia N8. They say this phone not so good, because what he can do, another phone already doing. Multiple homescreen, integreted social network, multitouch and more
