Video: Gorilla glass break test (to feature in N8)

| July 13, 2010 | Comments (0)

Here’s a video comparing  different type of glass used on mobile devices, including the scratch resistant Gorilla glass that is found in the upcoming Nokia N8 as confirmed by Damien Dinning.

In the tests, they sand blast the samples to demonstrate the wear and tear of abuse given to it by users. Check out how strong gorilla glass is in comparison to non strengthened and even strengthened soda-lime glass.

The Gorilla glass looks very resistant to me, very useful for users that would often accidentally drop the N8 on the ground. It’s a better alternative to plastic (which is subject to severe scratching, e.g. coins/keys in pocket) and also standard glass (which is vulnerable to cracking when dropped/high impact).

In addition to scratch and impact resistant gorilla glass, the N8 also has scratch resistant anodized aluminium body.

Nice! But the gorilla glass on iPhone 4 broke SO easily! I hope thats not the case with N8.

Might be the way it’s engineered into the design.
It may be too rigidly held in place, the frame of the phone may not dissipate energy properly any number of different factors.
