Just three months after being acquired (acquired in April),  MetaCarta Inc. is leaving Nokia for QBase. MetaCarta’s is a unique technology that combines geosearch and geotagging capabilities allowing users to find content about a location.

Nokia will keep MetaCarta’s geographic intelligence technology, which it is incorporating in its local search and other services such as Ovi Maps I suppose. MetaCarta wasn’t the first mapping firm acquired. There was Gate5 , Navteq and travel social network Dopplr.

Over the last few years, Nokia has been divesting businesses which were not important to them. Here’s the whole list : http://www.nokia.com/about-nokia/financials/divestments
