YouGov conducted a survey at the beginning of June, they interviewed 2,121 smartphone users asking about their next handset. Surprisingly only 34% considered getting a Nokia for their future handset. Compared to 46% that would have been willing to get a Nokia 6 months ago, it’s a loss of 12%.

Other stats includes that 41% would buy an iPhone next time, and 70% of customers were willing to recommend Apple. YouGov technology and telecoms team research manager, Russell Feldman, said:

‘Where Nokia once led the market, it has drastically fallen by the wayside. Its Ovi store continues to be significantly outperformed by both Apple’s Apps store and Android Marketplace. The results of our data consistently show that the market leader is fast becoming an also ran in the smartphone market. New products, software and apps are needed soon if Nokia is to keep up with its rivals.’

Right now I can see Nokia is trying, but they need to do more than achieve, they need to over-achieve. I hope that in the near future Nokia will succeed and progress in terms of technology but also sales. How about you what will be your next smartphone?
