Gallery: Sea of (Nokia) phones at Green Hills, Philippines. iPhones and BlackBerrys too :)
In the Philippines, there are more malls here than I care to remember. But one of the ones you just have to visit as a gadget geek is Green Hills. My favourite part is the ‘Changee’ or open market type thing (I have no idea how to translate). There are hundreds of these little stalls, blocked into categories from food to a myriad of counterfeit/”Class A” goods [aka supposedly original but not quality standard] of items such as clothing, shoes and jewellery.
My favourite part is a portion upstairs reserved for tech goods ^_^. It was very, very geek heaven. Photo below is one side of rows and rows of infinite and nigh on identical stalls, yet all equally captivating to visit. It wasn’t exciting for me just because they had the newest gadgets – mostly Nokias, and growing number of Samsungs, BlackBerrys and of course, iPhones and iPads. It was a fantastic nostalgic trip down memory lane seeing second hand Nokia classics, still in pristine condition.
The one below so meaningful for me as they were reminders of Nokia’s glory days. N93, N82, N95, N72 ME. N81 8GB not so much.
Some stalls go way way back in Nokia’s inventory. [TOP ROW – the one left of the 6220 escapes me…anyone remember what it’s called? Too low res upload to tell?]
Ah, memories – dear 7610 and 6600 as well as skull-faced charlie.
As mentioned, other brands are well represented. BlackBerry growing in popularity here (funny, my cousin thought the C3 was a BB and that BB was a Nokia brand – branding eh. Powerful stuff – no E/C series confusion)iPhone and iPads of course the pinnacle of tech here. Aheh.
And of course, there is a plethora of accessories – now these, unlike the original handsets, are pretty much guaranteed to be third party – so beware of the chargers/batteries which may break your phone.
Finally there are non phone gadgets – game consoles, cameras etc. Was just passing through this time so didn’t spend that much time to buy anything or check stuff out properly.
