Video: Sat Nav Comparisons – Driving with the Nokia N8, Ovi Maps, City Guide, Navitel and Garmin.
Here’s a test of some Satellite Navigation solutions for the Nokia N8 as demonstrated in a little car trip (hopefully the N8 not be plagued by inconsistent quality of GPS connectivity – it does now support A-GPS, Satellite and WiFi positioning for improved location awareness and stability)
Audio seems a little harsh on the Ovi Maps video recording.
n8 and City Guide
N8 and Navitel
N8 and Garmin
Another in car feature – (well not just for cars) The built in FM transmitter. No need for bluetooth set ups, just tune your car to the N8 or vice versa and stream your music from the N8 over to your car’s stereo system.

I still prefer BT over FM transmitters to be honest – for steering wheel controls and better quality(?) audio (no interference from radio stations).
I would have thought moving on from the Nokia N97 -
The N8 should stream the track name and artist ?
But they left it with just NOKIA
They said they do where RDS is supported. Clearly, RDS mustn’t be supported.
The RDS is functioning on that video. Otherwise it wouldn’t read NOKIA on the radio. That’s send via PS (Programme Service) field.
The artist and song titles are sen via
RT (Radio Text) field.
As far as implementation is concerned, most car stereos will support at least AF, EON, REG, PS and TA/TP. More expensive car stereos will offer TMC, RT and / or PTY, perhaps with “NEWS” override.
I would guess that the car radio in the video doesn’t support RT.
The color of the road actually shows the flow condition of the road, red means it is very busy.
In Finland, I often see green. From this demo, I see yellow color. I think it is quite accurate.
FM-transmitter is great! I’ve been using that with N97 and N900. FM-transmitter works with any radio, bluetooth doesn’t.
That is indeed just a great feature. You can just play your playlist in any car, for instance in a friends car, no hassle with cables or crap quality over BT.
Is it the garmin for symbian 1 that runs on n8?
Yeah it actually is. But I assume the N8 can run most apps from ^1.
Wonder if we can have ovi earth in the near future, i have lost my hope that google make google earth for symbian 3 4 and meego
fantastic issues altogether, you simply won a new reader. What might you suggest about your publish that you made some days ago? Any certain?
