The power-saving mode is really cool on N8. Just a couple clicks to turn it on, and it works quite well
It is one of the best features in N8, i think. It contribute a lot of N8′s good battery life.
Agreed. It’s very useful since N8 has a 1200 mAh battery. Combine that with the power efficiency of S^3 and you have a really good battery life
help not able to deactivate wlan search when i disconnect it automaticlly connects suddenly. so i changed wlan search after 30minutes. no use there is a video in youtube but its not working .homescreen offline and no background apps
I use handywi from Ovi when need to search wlan.
Try to reboot the device now by pressing power key and then check your wlan search parameter if it is disabled correctly.
Wifi consumes battery. Turn it on only when you need it.
There have been a few updates already and check if you have latest updates installed.
chandru, are you able to fix your problem?
Try to get your phone to Offline and then disable wlan scan. It should work.
I think the American reviewers should have watched some of these instructional videos before they used the phone. I can’t believe they are so damn clueless.

NOKIA TAKES STEPS TO ACCELERATE COMPANY TRANSFORMATION AND INCREASE EFFECTIVENESS
Symbian Smartphones and Services streamlined for greater simplicity for
consumers and developers
Espoo, Finland – Nokia has today communicated to its employees the companys
plans to accelerate its transformation and increase effectiveness. The plans
include simplifying operations in product creation in Nokias Symbian
Smartphones organization, as well as Nokias Services organization and
certain corporate functions. The plans are expected to result in a reduction
of up to 1800 employees globally.
In Symbian Smartphones, Nokia plans to renew product creation to increase
responsiveness to consumer demands and reduce time to market. This includes
expanding the use of common tools for application development, streamlining
software development, simplifying and consolidating operations and placing
greater focus on adding value to consumers. The changes target increased
competitiveness and support building an attractive and sustainable platform
for application developers.
Nokia is also making changes in its Services organization. Instead of distinct
end-to-end service lines, the Services organization will be focused on
delivering an integrated Ovi experience across our full range of devices. In
addition to simplifying its ways of working, the aim is to provide more
compelling Ovi services to consumers.
In line with these changes, Nokia is also streamlining certain corporate
functions and corporate research activities.
Changes impacting personnel are always difficult. We are committed to
managing these changes in a way that reflect Nokias values, and will support
affected employees with alternative solutions, such as helping them find new
positions within the company, says Juha Äkräs, Executive Vice President,
Human Resources. The announcement today is the result of careful evaluation
and planning; the plans have now been reviewed and endorsed by the new
management. The aim is to accelerate the companys transformation towards a
leading mobile solutions provider, and to do this we are simplifying and
integrating operations within our product creation and corporate functions.
Altogether, the planned changes are expected to result in a reduction of up to
1 800 employees globally, as activities are planned to be discontinued and
integrated. Nokia will begin applicable consultations with employee
representatives about these plans.
This is something I have been waiting to see. The change at Nokia should include every level, not only top management but also middle management and engineers. People who are not productive should be let out simply. Only this way there will be really a hope for a new Nokia.

That sounds good in principle, although changes that lead to firing 1800 employees aren’t really good news.

Am I reading this right? Do they really say that Symbian^3 devices will get Symbian^4 features like a completely new UI based on Qt?
I think the UI will be build separately from the OS. this way you will have UI_NAME 1.0 available for symbian 3 devices. and updates like this UI_NAME 1.1 will be independent from the OS
To my understanding, basically the answer is YES.
In Symbian 4, the UI will be built using QT so we will see really different UI, something I can say like Android.
This is one of the major reasons why revision of Symbian needs a considerable long time in 2 steps. Nokia’s approach is to provide backward compatibility, considering the vast base of existing user base. That’s why QT design is done for Meego first and will be shared with Symbain.
Nokia’s has a much longer vision for Symbian technology and platform than any people would think or believe in. Otherwise it would not shop QT at cost of 6B euro if Nokia is really going to put all eggs to basket of Meego.
I won’t be surprised we may see even Symbian 5, or 6 something like this in the future.
Gizcrapgang is of no clue about what Nokia are doing at all.

Actually this new UI support for Symbian 3 is not so difficult to understand if people know how QT cross-platform dev works.
alex do you know if meego UI will be different from Symbian UI( I mean the new UI) ?
thanks for your answer. I’m just saying that a lot of qt new apis are being build around meego lately. the idea is that a lot of libraries are already written for linux so nokia and intel payed some companies to create/port some apis to qt.
I know that symbian is not going anywhere, actually I think they want to create Symbian as the competitor to android,ios and with meego create a new category for people that are more interested in a mini netbook with phone capability. at least this is my prediction. it may be a wrong one only time will tell
