Nokia N8 New Firmware Update Imminent? E7 in a couple of weeks?
Is a firmware update coming real soon? Supposedly it’s for product code 0599219 (“LTA DARK GREY”).
I just checked NSU and there’s nothing there. Addiermedina says “@Camb078 not wair few hours”. (By nothing I mean no firmware update. I have though just updated Real Golf and Ovi Maps – I wish we could download and install apps from Ovi Suite )
Then again, this is just twitter. A tweet by @sharathachari who claims to be a “Nokia Executive” says,
“good news for all N8 customers bcs new firmware pr2.0 is coming within short time maybe this month end.”
I could also easily change my @JayMontano bio to say “Nokia CEO” no?
BTW, update on the E7 from Alex: A couple of days ago it was mentioned that E7 that may come in a couple weeks (not this week as was thought).
They also mentioned PR1.1 was coming soon.
So what is it – PR1.1 coming and PR 2.0 soon after? Isn’t it great how uncertain everything is? But you can’t really blame them. These things don’t really have any set release dates. They just seem to appear when it’s ready. Would you really want a firmware that’s half baked (again:p). I wish I could hand in my assignments like that (on my own time scale, not half baked
). It would be nicer though to have some kind of rough idea and trust in these dates.
Cheers to Rant for the tip.

You sir, are a fast article writer. But it sure is uncertain. I hope PR1.1 will be out at least next week and that includes some carrier variants as well. I’m getting mine approx. by the end of a fortnight so fingers crossed.
Regarding that Nokia exec. Reading his other tweets definitly don’t say I am an exec. A lot of tweets about Android and Acer launches. Not exactly great talk for ‘your’ company. Dismiss those tweets.
i cant w8 for a firmware update. hope they fix the mms problem, and maybe take care of the browser and keyboard (not the portrait qwerty, i want the keyboard to pop out without it hiding whatever im doing! i know its possible, its implemented in some apps, why not across the whole ui?!)
PR2.0 due in early february, I guess 1.1 (which is only meant for the N8 according to various sources) is only for bug fixes and such.
I mean that PR2.0 will bring the different keyboard.
Actually, what does pr stand for?
pr stands for ‘Production Release’.
public release
…I just hope Nokia doesn’t require us to have a SIM inserted into the phone to update the FW. That just really annoys me, and is archaic.
What, so the rest of the time you don’t have a SIM in your N8 and don’t use it in your phone, therefore it is such a big hassle to have a SIM in at firmware update time!?!?
no he just has a stolen phone and so no sim will ever register in the phone.
the same @addiermedina says image compression in camera is reduced( upto 4-5 MB images now, and contrast, colours seem to have improved) and also like alex68 showed us earlier, a draggable homescreen is arriving.. he also said something like “new ui” i asked him if it is based on qt, he said “yes” then i asked him is there any change in the homescreen, he said ” no but it is faster and more stable” .
e7 already launched in asia

I think it might make sense for Nokia to release the E7 at MWC, because I still don’t think MeeGo or the device is ready yet. If anything, it might be a summer release and then another device in 2012. If they release MeeGo now, and by judging rumors on how awesome it is, it might foreshadow Symbian^3 which could be bad for business especially when it’s been getting all the attention as of late. Can’t wait for the browser though, not having flash in Opera is an annoyance.
Update: January 14 has been mentioned as the date for PR1.1 for all N8 codes. @addiermedina
Januari 13 for PR1.1
It’ll be interesting to see if it truly is for *all* product codes.
Will be a pleasant turnaround for Nokia to have all operator variants on the same basic release.
Fingers crossed!
I think you should read all codes as all color variants and country variants. You then still have different operator variants.
If you have an N8 just check your FW version, it should read 011.012 if there are some extra numbers behind it or an extra column that says custom version you have an operator version.
I guess PR1.1 takes a month extra for operator versions unless Nokia has managed, as you say, to get operators to use generic versions.
@addiermedina .. So another 3 days to go … wow
can anybody tell me if i will get the update because my product code is 0599399 and not the 0599219? i live in south africa. and about the pr2.0 update does anyone know if there any improvements in the music player like being able to add and edit an equlizer, search option and editing id3 tags? can that stuff be included in an fm update?
January,13 Nokia N8 will get the PR1.1 update
My view is that this @addiermedina character is just craving attention… and he is getting it.
He referred to PR1.1 containing up to “50 improvements” and as far as I am aware it is PR2.0 that will have the 50 changes. PR1.1 is just an interim fix.
Some people just need attention.
I talked today to a nokia employee here in italy and he said the PR2.0 is coming 2 or 3 weeks after MWC, so it’s gonna come in the end of february… I mean you can’t trust me either but I trust more the employee than a “maybe fake” tweet.
@George… Your source would be correct. February will be the launch date.
Im surprised their are operator versions still this day and age?
Does anyone know if the iPhone has operator versions of iOS ? or even if Android is modified by the operator?
All operators here in the US have their own branded versions of android. Att is the worst when it come to crippling the phone.
So is it for sure now, that we are getting PR 1.1 somewhere between the 13th and 14th?
And do we know for a fact that the browser and keyboard update is not comming until PR 2.0?
pr1.1 will be available next week at earliest, according to my source.
Say Alex, have you got any idea which production codes’s are from the new batch of N8′s?
The supposed fixed ones?
What do you mean? Do you mean those new N8s that don’t have quality issues recognized by Nokia earlier? No, I don’t have. But basically those ones having production dates afer Nov 23 for safe.
Ok, thanks that is at least some info that is usable. Guess the mfr date is visible somewhere on the packaging?
i’m wondering what exact change log it for PR1.1
and when it’s available.cause if nokia holds this off again this will hurt them alot cause they need it to show everyone they are serious about the smartphone competition and to gain more dominance
and as well for PR1.2 i want to know some dates
my N8 would like a minor pick me up
I am not expecting any major changes with PR1.1 so I would not expect too much otherwise we are going to have a lot of disappointed and moaning people again.
This is the problem Nokia always faces… information, and new products, are leaked to the public far too early and then for the rest of time their is speculation and exaggeration which inevitably leads to disappointment when these expectations are not met.
they need to stop that or have notifications via OVI
on handset a week before release so we are all aware that an update will be happening soon and it’s legit
@ alex68 can u plz let us knw the new features of pr 2.0 !!!
I have software version 011.012 but also have Custom version 011.012.226.03 my phone does not have any branding on it, can it be updated on the release date
To Eldar Murtazin;
It’s rumoured that, New Web browser not coming ’till March….
Come on nokia.. You are always promising, but not getting your promieses…. D*mn….
Sh0ck,
If its “rumoured” how can that be breaking a promise?
Take your time Nokia.
As much as I want the update ready ASAP, I really want it to be bug-free, so I can finally enjoy my N8..
