Nokia N8 Firmware PR 1.1 Available for real – V013.016 OTA or Ovi Suite

Apologies for being late folks. Was in a couple of lectures and PBL sessions this morning as your wave of tips and comments came about the N8 firmware being available. Alas, unlike N900 and MicroB, current Symbian browser is NOT a fan of wordpress (or the web in general :p).

As you can see, the firmware v0.13.016 that Nokia Conversations mentioned last Friday can now be downloaded. You can do this OTA like so (*#0000# on dialler, press options>update) or get it via cable and Ovi Suite (My preferred option since my signal is bad and there’s no WiFi here).

Mine is 7.2MB OTA or 176mb via Ovi Suite. The time T-Mob’s got to 400kb I’d already have downloaded 176MB.

Basic change log:

You’ll be given options to back up the entire N8, selected backup options or no back up at all (with notification of small risk that you’ll lose your data).

The Update is 176MB

It will install your firmware.

N8 will turn off, go blank. Don’t touch it. Don’t disconnect it. You might see it start up again and think it’s done. NO. Wait for Ovi Suite confirmation.

Do not under any circumstances DISCONNECT N8 UNTIL OVI SUITE TELLS YOU!

If you did disconnect prematurely, a reconnection and reinstall is easy enough. It has already downloaded the firmware and will just install. I’ve just done this, being in a rush and it messed up my menu button a little, making it take longer to exit.

I’m sure many of you have already downloaded it. How have you found it so far? I’ll edit this post  in a bit. Have more lectures and dissection to go to. Surface anatomy and body painting today apparently. Rotation is definitely faster.

Cheers Adnan and others!
