Wow! First glimpse of Nokia’s Windows Phone 7 Concept.

This just appeared on Engadget (cheers Keith!). Despite being WP7, it’s still very Nokia. How soon until/if we see this announced? What’s it even called? Will it be given an ACTUAL name or usual post code affair? Anything could happen after what we’ve seen today.

it’s not about the design,is about the user interface ! phone looks sexy but OS ugly ! i will say no to this phone ! my next phone probably is SAMSUNG S2 ! welcome ANDROID and bye bye NOKIA !

    • Smith says:

Agreed. While I can love the hardware a device like that has a stone cold broken soul of Microsoft software. No good. No good at all.

      • chester says:

ha ha ha ha ha it’s all politics at Nokia now.

many nokia fans/lovers were baptised inton Adroid community yesterday after Stephen Elop revealed his political Identity,

Symbian is on a death path now.

Even if Nokia releases a MeeGo phone it’s likely not 2 get support in the long-run.

I was 1 strong Nokia fan but after yesterday I had 2 jump 2 another boat – Intel.Intel is my only option now and they have re-assured us of their commitment 2 MeeGo,and are having many big players like BMW,AMD.

        RIP Nokia & Microsoft.

I’ll be get my next phone from Intel with Medfield SoC running MeeGo.

  2. michael says:

The WP7 OS is amazing and is far far away smoother than every Android powered phone i used…Is just that is new and doesnt have so many features yet…not a year passed be patient. Nokia did a very good decision as long as provide features symbian powered phones have like usb otg, file manager, multitasking copy paste hdmi carl zeiss etc…

  3. wes? says:

I think they won’t use WP7, it will be a majorly updated version of WP7 and that’s why nobody mentioned “WP7″ in the discussions but just “WP”. I can see advantages with XBox Live and perfect office support, but they have a lot to do to make WP as capable as either Symbian or MeeGo. Still the guy who has jailbroken WP said that he is heavily impressed with the Windows Phone roadmap. So there are chances that this will work out. Additionally more than 90% of the people don’t care what operating system is running on a mobile. They will even still buy Symbian devices, because they didn’t hear about this change. And some wouldn’t ever consider to update their phone… It’s a Nokia, that’s what they think. It’s just us fans that are deeply hurt.

Still I’m hoping they have a good plan for MeeGo to get self-controlled again somewhen. They just couldn’t say: “WP will be our major bet, but we have a backup anyway…”.
What literally destroys my hopes is that they basically abandoned Qt. This sucks hard and probably closes the door to a self controlled Nokia for ever. And that’s what we loved about Nokia so much. They could do what nobody else does. USB-OTG, Qt, Real Multitasking etc. These times are gone with WP on Nokias…

    • wes? says:

Forgot the worst thing about this. Somehow this can be seen as a proof that the open approach to software doesn’t work. Nokia has tried for years with huge amounts of money, that was the reason why I got a Nokia fan. Now they ended up using a closed system. This to me is even worse than everything else…

Basically it reads: “Yes Apple you did right with your closed and tied up system. As we don’t have neither time nor money to do that on our own, we have to partner Microsoft.”

      This hurts…

      • jonnyjl says:

They also reamed us on the way out. How Qt wasn’t a requirement for the partnership is a sign they purposely screwed their STILL MAJORITY fan base and user base

If you know anyone that is considering a Nokia device or can return one and you care anything about them, you’d let them know what’s going on and tell them that this company has no intentions on following through with their roadmaps for Symbian, Qt, or Meego and we’re going to get screwed by the third-party developers because they won’t stick around for Qt Mobility/QML when Nokia shot the major platforms that would use it in the head and couldn’t be bothered to fight for Qt on WP7.

This isn’t even touching on the fact that they’re going to see major reductions in force, on top of what they had last year, and there’s no way they’re going to have any resources for Symbian/Qt/Meego.

I’m thinking we’ll be lucky if we get PR2.0 this year.

      • Don says:

Nokia lost because of a lot of reasons, but not the singled out fact they used to be open source. Mismanagement being the biggest factor.

We can probably also look forward to the end of non-slave labour manufacturing, bio materials, and any research that is about long term instead of the next quarterly results.

Hope Finland pulls the plug on all the good deals Nokia get, and invests the money in new Finnish startups. Nokia can fuck off to the US, they’ll be nothing more than a microsoft division within 18 months anyway.

Never in history has such a company been stabbed and killed in such an effective way.

(To all WP7 fans, are you going to buy 500M phones next year? Didn’t think so)

  4. Mike says:

    The new nokian W-series!

  5. Sandy says:

    DESIGN IS AWESOME
    BUT OS IS UGLY
COULD IT HAS BEEN RELEASE WITH S^3 PR 2.0 I DEFINITELY BUY IT.

    • chester says:

      Big ‘NO’ to WP7,

Waiting 2 see whether Nokia releases a Meego phone,

Now my next phone is gonna be from Intel with Meego,Intel has just backed Meego with many other big players like BMW.

Nokia shareholders should vote Mr Elop out, yeah it’s knives out for Elop

      • dsmobile says:

These plans was made months ago before Elop was even selected to be CEO. Might be the reason why Ari Jaaksi left when he did.

Elop is the image of this but he is not the source of the plan. This how I see this.

Anyway details of what Nokia can modify in WP7 and add there and if can add that can Nokia keep those things as exclusive for their handsets.

I also wonder can Nokia keep the OVI there also for people who actually use it? Are they going to close music store and people loose what they have payed for ? Loose the Email ? That everyone in india uses as their email and chat? And how is ovi chat+yahoo ?

Too much questions with out any answers.

  6. Zahid says:

i feel that nokia has taken right step choosing wp7.if they bring goodies from symbian 3 like visiualized multitasking, usb on the go,hdmi, micro sd support, bluetooth file transfer etc etc, it’ll probably be my next nokia .
But these changes should be exclusive for nokia, not for sammy, lg and htc.

  7. gordonH says:

Oh my all of this is happening. Just got up and symbian, meego and QT are being still being stabbed . This is not a dream, it’s like a nightmare but it’s REAL.
Ok going back to sleep. Will try to create a nice revenge dream where i will be shoving some of some old Nokia phones up Elop’s A*S. I got 20 of them and hope he takes it all in. After that I will put Elop in Ice till all the phones inside Elop’s a*s gets frozen and cold. Once Elop freezes then I will p*ss on him to melt the ice.
It’s been ten years since I cursed like that…So Soorry MNB for my foul language, it’s hard to digest Elop throwing away symbian,QT,meego and Ovi.

  8. Mac says:

I got these features and they’re on my N8! What the hell do i care about the wp7 for when i currently have the N8 now? Thats all that matters to me now and getting the support and updates to this phone too. All that was needed was the ui and browser updates. Was that so hard to get right? Even HP taking over palm managed to bring on the new version quicker than nokia could. It all makes sense now. Elop from day 1 had his intentions pre-set and that is why pr1.1 was so delayed!? Go figure, why invest time and effort when you plan to drop it and anyway all the guys that would have been working on the updates were busy over at microsoft with the prototype and didnt care about symbian ^3 . I think 1 update to come to shut our mouths and to calm us down thats it. Forget everything else that was planned for the os. Btw, that wp7 may release sooner than we think cos Elop lied. That roadmap is misleading. Ms would never agree to such a huge timeline! They need quicker growth. That is number 1 priority for them in this merger. Everything else takes 2nd place. One last thing is that Nokia, please announce the meego phone at mwc keep an open mind and watch. You havnt dropped it completely cos it is your plan B. That is the truth as know it. Millions would buy that to show you a point and because of the ability of the os itself. Classify it as your past time os or whatever but when it hits a high volume in sales then and only then would you see the light that ms would be 2nd fiddle. Meego would hit the market running. I still want that update for my N8 though. Now please at mwc. I will wait for the mwc announcements to see what nokia plans. After that i will decide what phone to get.

  9. Ajay says:

remember WP7 phone corrupted memory card story?? and who revived that dead card??? Nokia N8 (symbian)…

    Nokia…. No – Kia…

  10. Ishaan says:

That design + MeeGo = what i wanted!

  11. Mike says:

    It’s just AWESOME!

  12. Guest says:

That’s half phone. Only the hardware is to count and love, the software is not to be reckoned with.

  13. Prodigy Viisto says:

    I would buy that!

  14. Nt says:

someone said that this was a fan concept not a concept from nokia nor microsoft. see the post on engadget. it linked to a post on moble-review

  15. Don says:

Nokia has never had to put anything else on their phone then “NOKIA”. It was always a Nokia phone, whether it runs S40, S60/3/5rd, etc.

Now it has a friggin Microsoft logo.

In a way they got what they deserved, smug asshole managers acting the last few years. But it’s the end of Nokia.

Waiting for Google and Samsung to open an RD office in Finland and hire the good Nokia employees (infrastructure already there). Who the hell wants to continue working for Nokia now?

    • Guest says:

Yea Samsung so they can work with WP7 to Omnia 7.

    • hary says:

I think you haven’t seen the Q&A session of Elop and Timo.
This Q was asked specifically by an analyst.
Elop replied they have the freedom to market as they want in different markets.
So they can just market as Nokia device instead of microsoft logo, etc.
I think they will market as microsoft in US, whereas Nokia in other countries where Nokia is the leader.

I think most of the folks here haven’t watched the video and read just headlines and are jumping to their own conclusions.

  16. playboy says:

nokia is nt going to drop support fr symbian 3…..they said qt will be there and meego fone os going to come…..but little late…..iam sure they gonna annouce meego at wmc……waiting fr pr 2 now…..loving my N8 blue best fone…..

  17. MS- says:

    My dear friends…
you are geeks and no graphic designers / user interface experts. With my experience i can tell you WP7 is the best looking OS in the market and the most use friendly. It’s a real touch screen OS.
You might hate the “unopeness” of the WP7 and bla blah… for common people that is completely insignificant.

  18. [...] Check out the image above of the Nokia Windows Phone devices that leaked on Friday. [...]
