Videos: Stephen Elop and Steve Ballmer answers questions (+ Boys II Men on Symbian/MeeGo/Qt/Nokia)
How are you feeling? Are you rested a little after the furore of possibly the biggest change in Nokia’s history where all control of the company’s direction is NOT in their hands.
Here’s a video below when both Steves, Stephen Elop and Steve Ballmer answers questions asked today by the readers of Nokia Conversations (Nokia’s Official Blog). You may have already read what they’ve said before, but there’s something different seeing it from the (trojan) horses’ mouth. :p Oh I joke.
Ballmer defends Nokia’s position as hardware maker, that it is NOT a commody, saying that it part of the reason apple is in the position they’re in is because they innovated hardware as well as software.
More frighteningly, when asked if this was a long term thing or whether this was a bridge until Symbian and MeeGo are ready for mass deployment (which, still now I think would be best case scenario – fix Symbian UI, release MeeGo which is STILL going ahead backed by Intel), Elop says NO. This is a LONG TERM COMMITMENT. They will invest more in lower end, and also investing in future disruptions – WHAT will be the next innovation to ensure they’re leading the NEXT disruption instead of following it.
I love how Ballmer talks. “Monday afterNOOON”. lol. He doesn’t seem like a MS CEO…more kinda crazy, inappropriate uncle.
There’s also another video. If you missed the live stream here’s the Nokia MS press conference. I do like that Elop is a very good speaker. It’s a shame there’s no Finnish twang in the accent. That might be a good thing based on the replies we always see when OPK speaks (sadly, folks do make a dig against foreign-english accents). Accents aside, this is the whole Nokia-MS partnership as it was unveiled to the world. BLACK FRIDAY.
Isn’t it odd, again, if you think about this just 2-3 years back – you’d never say that Elop making a speech today is on “OUR” side.
The ever insightful YouTube comments:
Oh one last video that @_Nexus retweeted from @adonisdemon.
Listen to the lyrics.
- Think of it from Symbian/MeeGo/Qt/Ovi’s perspective, wanting Nokia back.
- Or reverse –
- Or a Nokia fans take on Nokia
how ever way you wanna take it. It’s quite poignant.
End of the Road (for Symbian/MeeGo/Qt) Boys II Men. (Anyone here familiar with the band or are you folks to young for that? ;p)
(spoken)
Girl you know we belong together
I have no time for you to be playing
With my heart like this
You’ll be mine forever baby, you just see (when MS ditches you)
(verse)
We belong together (NOK+ SYM-MEEGO-QT)
And you that I’m right
Why do you play with my head, (burning platform memo)
Why do you play with my mind? (In going with ms?)
Said we’d be forever (NOK+ SYM-MEEGO-QT)
Said it’d never die (NEVER pee in our pants to stay warm?)
How could you love me and leave me (for MS?)
And never say good-bye? (Not even aknowledging displacement of Symbian. Official Nokia blog already hailing wp7 advantages over Symbian)
Girl I can’t sleep at night without holding you tight
Girl, each time I try I just break down and cry
Pain in my head oh I’d rather be dead (MeeGo Stuck with Intel)
Spinnin’ around and around
Chorus:
Although we’ve come to the end of the road
Still I can’t let you go (Bond of Nokia’s own OS solutions, own freedom, denial)
It’s unnatural, you belong to me, I belong to you (MeeGo, Symbian, Qt, Nokia. Recipe for success that was never allowed to be tasted.)
Come to the end of the road
Still I can’t let you go
It’s unnatural, you belong to me, I belong to you
Girl, I know you really love me, (It’s just that there’s someone else now making decisions, despite what you want, Nokia)
You just don’t realize (You didn’t wait, all the years of transitioning was to unfold. It was coming. But you gave up and saddled with someone else)
You’ve never been there before
It’s only your first time
Maybe I’ll forgive you, hmm (we can work it out. Put the old strategy back. MeeGo high end. Symbian mid-low. Qt everywhere.)
Maybe you’ll try
We should be happy together
Forever, you and i
Girl, you love me again like you loved me before
This time I want you to love me much more
This time instead just come to my bed (We have Qt and MeeGo there too)
And baby just don’t let me, don’t let me down
Chorus
(spoken)
Girl I’m here for you
All those times of night when you just hurt me
And just run out with that other fella (how could you go off with MS?)
Baby I knew about it, I just didn’t care
You just don’t understand how much I love you do you?
I’m here for you (Even if you neglect your Symbian, which was created by several manufacturers to resist MS taking control of mobile space, unconditionally, Symbian loves you and will be here for you)
I’m not out to go out and cheat on you all night (It’s always been, Symbian and Nokia)
Just like you did baby but that’s all right
Hey, I love you anyway
And I’m still gonna be here for you ’till my dying day baby (everyone has pronounced Symbian’s death so many times. I would never die when you were there. But now, you’ve signed my death certificate)
Right now, I’m just in so much pain baby (It hurts so bad, even engadget is defending Symbian in that it was only really needing a little facelift.)
Coz you just won’t come back to me (you weren’t just cheating on sYMBIAN with MS, you left Symb for MS)
Will you? just come back to me (So many adoring fans, stockholders and developers agree)
(lonely)
Yes baby my heart is lonely
(lonely)
My heart hurts baby
(lonely)
Yes I feel pain too
Baby please
This time instead just come to my bed
And baby just don’t let me go
