The ST Ericsson U8500 was first announced with support for the Symbian platform and then subsequently presented with support for both the MeeGo and Android platforms in various events since it’s announcement a year ago. Reuters are now reporting that they Nokia has plans to use the U8500 chipset in their upcoming Windows Phone devices. Admittedly though, the quotes used do not directly state that Nokia Windows Phone devices are going to be using this chipset prompting my response that the article is little more than conjecture and a few choice quotes to make their point. In any event it’s highly possible that there will be different chipset manufacturers plying their wares in the Windows Phone ecosystem, I’ll be adopting a wait and see approach as far as this news goes.
