Video: Symbian Anna aka PR2.0 – appearing in the coming months (Summer? as previously mentioned)

| April 12, 2011 | 75 Replies

Three UK accidentally announced Symbian Anna (code name for PR2.0 – the 50+ updates) before Nokia. But not too soon before Nokia as they’ve published this post and video over at Nokia Conversations.

http://conversations.nokia.com/2011/04/12/announcing-symbian-anna-aka-pr2/

Did you think it would be available today?

“Symbian Anna will also be made available for owners of the Nokia N8, C7, C6-01 and E7 in the coming months”

It may thus be part of the Summer Update. Not including new UI perhaps (at least the screenshots don’t show). VP of Forum Nokia said first major update (this is pretty major) was coming in the summer.

      whut?

    • Mokia says:

Dont talk hyped up shit man, if you want a Ifhone go get one and get lost also loser. Nokia and Symbian rockz! I know could be better yall iphone android fanpeople just want a lot of fancy moving things in your screen!! But do you see them when you have the phone in your pants!! Assholes its like look at me i have quad core 2 ghz that really sucks if you think like that nerds!! I say Nokia and Symbian rules! No matter what you trained monkeys telling me and my hombres.

      • Meegomad says:

You think taking about processors if geeky?

Yet you know ANY thing technical about symbian? Do you know how to sign a sis? Change font? How to flash the os? Symbian is highly customizable but for geeky people, I know this because this has happened to me

        • MJT says:

Believe me he does know a lot more than that ;-)

Beeing a Symbian Geek himself, modding the hell out of stuff and doing a little coding.

Nevertheless what he meant is just that annoing bragging about specs, while not relativising the use of them.

I really don’t care if others brag. I’m fine with Symbian, and I’d probably be fine with any other MOS if only I had the same deep insight and modding knowledge for it. But featurewise only Android would come any where near Symbian. I’m yet too lazy to learn from scratch again. And I’m quite happy with Symbian’s energy management.

All I hate about this specs war is, that it could mean the end of my beloved Symbian for no technical reason, only for end consumer reasons. That is the sad part.

          Cheers

  2. MS says:

my mistake guys… actually ANNA means TO GIVE.

  3. Poop says:

WHY DO THEY TAKE SO LONG TO BRING US UPDATES

    • cgf says:

i guess, there are only less than ten persons who are working on symbian!

      • Poop says:

Well I also heard Symbian is very hard to code for, Unlike Android. So it could just be that it requires more work or maybe they just like to take many precautions while making these updates :/ Making it Open source might help them out a bit

        • Watts says:

Symbian has been open source for a while, and it didn’t help; Nokia was pretty much still doing all the development. (To be fair, this is also true of Android and Google; the only mobile OS that this might not be true of is, somewhat ironically, MeeGo.)

And yes, Symbian is pretty hard to code for; that’s what the whole move to adopting Qt as the API was about.

    • Postm says:

Maybe they do not want bricked devices, like those, hm, WP7s recently.

    • HE says:

ITS NOT EASY TO BRING UPDATES FOR SUCH A HUGE SYMBIAN CONSUMER BASE.U HAVE TO PASS EVERY UPDATES IN CONSUMER DEPARTMENT WHERE THEY TEST EACH UPDATES WITH ALL THE PARAMETERS TO MAKE IT A SUCCESSFUL.ITS THE HARD WORK OF SYMBIAN DEVELOPERS WHO ARE CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVING SYMBIAN OS TO MAKE IT MORE UI.
U SHOULD THANK TO NOKIA DEVELOPERS AND ITS R & D LAB FOR BRINGING THE BEST UI FOR MOST FUNCTIONAL OS OF THE WORLD

    • Ali Abdulla says:

the sad part is, they named it a “Symbian” event, that was so misleading, since the first thing that came to my mind was PR2.0…

if u wanna advertise that symbian is still alive and kicking, u dont have to do it on the expense of current users

  4. Manohar says:

    Very long..

  5. Guest says:

Nokia should do as Samsung, shit in updates instead of promise. Samsung Spica still lacks updates.

  6. Rudeboi says:

People calm down. Apple make people wait all the time and yet when the update comes out it’s on time and works with no issues. I wouldnt mind waiting for a good update and man is this some refreshing stuff for the Symbian devices

  7. vidar says:

If its so hard to code, why not make it easier? I have Hope in Symbian, like everything except for the home screens

    • Poop says:

      Lol idiot much?

You want them to make it easier? Hmm yeah, lets just re-write Symbian from scratch with a different kernel and a different language or two. That should be available soon, shouldn’t it?

  8. rain says:

I’m sick of waiting more and more… at least they should give us something. I don’t need a big 50+ update at once. I would be satisfied if they give us bit for a bit. I don’t really think that a vertical qwerty is so much of implementation. so give us at least this one. und more more in time….

  9. mja says:

    Bubbles @betalabs has this:
“Bubbles will be made available again when Qt 4.7.x is officially supported by smart installer. Current earliest estimate for this is the last week of April.”
So probably last week of April is the earliest and maybe not too far away from seeing the updates.

  10. Paulo Oliveira says:

Hmmmm… Portrait keyboard inside the browser could be better!!!

There’s no / (slash) when typing URLs and we know that it is a very used key in this moment… Why they put the apostrophe there?

Ops… Landscape keyboard also fails in this case!

    It’s a shame! :(

  11. Ronald says:

i dont mind waiting for the updates. its only alarming because symbian now has a shelf-life.lol.
