Video: The Amazing Nokia BH-505 available in Red, Green, Black (and Blue?!) – now only £35.99! Bargain!
So yesterday we saw a video of the Nokia J (BH-806?) in a new glossy product video. Here’s one for the BH-505, undoubtedly my most favourite bluetooth headset EVER.
I found them really comfortable to wear, great sound, awesome bass, great sound isolation, excellent battery life, does NOT fall off your head what so ever. Construction is also very strong. I pair this up with my N8, N900, Computer, even Samsung Omnia 7. It’s wonderful. Music buttons all work. Funny thing I found is that when attached to a Samsung, the Nokia tune plays in the headset! Connection is easy, and next time you turn it on, it will automatically connect to that device. Easy and no fuss. Something else I love is how (when you’re in a call) the headset plays in the sound of your surroundings so you can hear around you and what you’re saying. You don’t get that weird sensation when like you’re talking with fingers in your ears. It is such a subtle feature but all combined is why I rant and rave about this product.
The only issue I had was that you can’t lean against a headrest given the loop around the back and the gap between it and your head. And also that perhaps the buds come off a little too easily on mine and that voice activated dialling only works with Symbian. Other than that, wonderful. Oh, another thing that’s great, the price! It’s stonkingly good. You can pick one up for about £35.99. That’s extreme value for money. I thought they were great value at £50. Devin Balentina is an audiophile and he can attest to how good the BH-505s are.
Check it out, Nokia BH-505 bluetooth headset, just £35.99 at Amazon
What surprises me is why they’re doing product videos of it again 1 year on. Perhaps it’s for the new colours, Red, Green and Black. Not sure why they don’t show the blue one. It’s clearly blue in the first screenshot right?

- Nokia BH-505 Bluetooth Stereo Headset | n8fan | June 9, 2011

Really good head-set! Use it when running as well.
Slightly annoying is though that I think BT must be switched on on the phone (tested N900 and N8) first before switching the head-set on or it won’t pair automatically. My wife almost thrashed the head-set because of that
(I guess we are noobs)
One of Nokia’s best products.
The BT “problem”. That’s no fault of the headset though. It can’t pair up to a phone that it cannot find because the bluetooth is off.
I’m not sure if there are ways to make it activate the bluetooth on the phone, but then again, the purpose of BT being OFF in the phone is to prevent that happening.
Our problem was that I’d paired the headset with the phone already previously and set the headset as a trusted device. Now I hadn’t told my wife that BT must be enabled before switching on the headset so a couple of times she did that by chance but yesterday she switched the headset on first and then enabled BT -> fail. The solution was to switch the headset off and on again.
Or got to your BT settings, long click on the headset and choose “connect”
Easy!
i had 3 pairs of the moto s9′s which all failed due to sweat getting in despite their being active/waterproof. I’d be worried that this Nokia headset would have the same problem.
The bh-505 comes with in-ear and “normal” buds, 3 sizes each (so 6 in total). I’ve used (my wife too) the in ear buds and haven’t had any problems with sweat getting in. Give it a try.
I heard similar on the Motos (S9, S9 HD and the “improved” S10 HD) – a good few people saying they were fine, but more than I’m comfortable with who had exactly the same problems as me.
And reading around, it turns out that the BH-505, while they do sound very good, they seem to have exactly the same potential design failure as the Motos – plenty of people have complained of sweat working its way in and causing device failure.
So doubt I’ll be buying any … will have to make do with the arm band (or bum bag) for the phone and conventional headphones.
And now I can also read incoming text messages on my watch ….
I had 2 sets of BH-505. They both broke down on my first workout. This model is definitely *NOT* sweat resistant and therefore not suitable for workouts. In that respect it’s just as bad as Motorola’s set. Reception, however, is a lot better on the Nokia’s.
Sound is not too bad given the price and design but with my N95 8GB I could get a lot more out of them than with my N8 due to the customizable equalizer that Nokia now decided to get rid of in newer Symbian version for some weird reason.
Being a bit of an audiophile I would strongly recommend the BH-905i with active noise-cancelling. I’ve never heard better sounding phones in this price range and they are even suitable for workouts! The sweat can easily be wiped off after the workout and they don’t get in your way if, e.g., you’re lying on a bench doing bench presses.
This is my 5th set of BT headphones and by far the best! It’s definitely worth the extra money!
BT4.0 might help if that power saving feature really is good and you could keep BT “on” always with out loosing much on battery life.
“Something else I love is how the headset plays in the sound of your surroundings so you can hear around you and what you’re saying.”
This is something that I’ve never read in any reviews. That’s awesome!
I only found out about it after posting my initial review. I thought it was broken but it really helps make the call seem more natural.
Quite freaky as well!!
I thought that to be the most ridiculous thing ever. While other headsets go to great efforts to cancel external noise (ie active noise cancellation), this one makes it an advantage to do the exact opposite, that is, force the external noise in?
Sorry let me make this clear:
1) When listening to music, it cancels out noise
2) When making calls, the other party has clear sound (of your voice)
3) However, when you listen, you can hear your own voice as well as the other caller.
Try speaking with a finger in each ear. That’s what sound isolation headphones sound like when you’re on the phone. It’s a strange sensation. But these play the external sound through the earphones to make it seem like you’re talking without a headset on.
Sorry if that wasn’t made clear.
sexy looking blue and black ones :3
I love this model too.
I use it a lot at work and private. I run with it, I use it at the gym.. oh yeah.. a cool feature is the video out on the N900. You can connect the phone to the flat screen displays in front of all the exercise equipment – so I can check my mail on a big screen, or watch pod casts or movies.
With the headset I don’t need to have my player attached to me in any way. No cables. I can just place it on the fitness machine and focus on my cardio AND the latest episodes of Chuck.
When there is no screen I can keep the phone in my pocket or in my bag.
I drive an old diesel car that makes a lot of noise. I have no problem listening to calls in the car. Without the headset I would struggle with that.
My only problem is that I can not use in when I’m in bed listening to audio books because of the loop around the neck. It that could be adjusted it would be scary perfect.
Another cool thing (imo) is that they are NFC compatible. Just bring the NFC phone and BH-505 close together and they are connected!
does the n8 have a hidden nfc chip?
only c7 is being advertised as having one
Ye, as far as i know it’s only the c7 that has nfc.
Very promising words about this bluetooth headset here. I was planning on ordering it on amazon but after reading through other sites and reviews I’ve stumbled upon the following questions.
1. Does amazon refund or repair your device?
2. Does it fit everyones head? What’s the dimension; I can’t work out which dimension stated on nokia.com is which
3. I’ve read a lot of comments on this device that it ‘breaks’ very quickly due to sweat, is this due to the
4. Is this device designed to clamp around your head so it doesn’t move?
5. If it’s designed to be a bit loose, what effect does this have during jogging? (e.g. bounces up and down and tears your ears open)

I wouldn’t buy those. The main disandantage of these is that you don’t have the option to use only one earpiece. For instance, while running outside or having a workout in the gym, you sometimes want to use only one earpiece to listen to music, so that you can hear also sounds from the environment or other people. Also, they don’t seem very convenient.
I use Nokia’s BH-214 bluetooth, which have very very good sound and are confortable. And also thinking of buying Sony MW-600.
I have both Sony MW-600 and BH-905i. For my fitness Sony did a great job while 905i are providing the best music experience I’ve ever had. MW-600 are really strong in terms of audio performance too. Now I’m thinking about trying BH 505. The headset is looking good at this price.
Researched stereo BT headsets for exercise extensively last yr in several dedicated/epic threads.
These were on my short-list (not my shortest list) but were ultimately trumped by the Sennheiser MM100′s
Been a very happy camper since…
There’s the odd user complaint about them not being durable.
But not nearly as many as the 505 or other makes/models.
I’ve never had an issue with durability.
people
i ordered the BH-505 and after that i saw a lot of bad reviews and comments about it … basically i ordered it for working out and a lot of people said that it stops working even after the first time you wear it and sweat on it … so what is right and what is wrong and is that a default error on all the BH-505′s or these were few cases
