Video: Nokia N8 and a close up with ants!

The brilliant Tommi, aka from youtube we have showcased many times, has a new video for us using his Nokia N8. With a macro lens, he dives down into the land of the ants!

It looks like a David Attenburgh special or Bugs Life/Antz .

Amazing stuff!

These little ants (Lasius Niger) woke up from their winter torpor about month ago. Still having snow outside and being hungry, they came searching for a food inside our basement. I gave them some honeywater to look and shoot video about how fast word goes mouth to mouth – or shall I say antenna to antenna – that food is available.

I must admire these little creatures that although being so small and thus having minimalistic brains, they can successfully communicate difficult matters to each other by secreting different molecules for different messages. They are able to maintain complex hierarchical societies.

As ants use antennae for communicating, it is vital that they are always clean for reception and transmission. So no wonder I saw them often cleaning their antennae as also can be seen at the end of the video.

Video was shot with Nokia N8 phone using Vivitar ser-vii macro lens in front of it. Also full digital zoom was applied. Edited using youtube’s editor.
