CJ of zomgitscj.com has got a demo of Maps running on the new S40 handset, the dual-sim Nokia C2-03.

This is pretty significant – pushing navigation and social location based services to users of ‘lower-end’, aka more affordable handsets.

It looks pretty smooth. Unfortunately what we hear is that there aren’t voice locations – there isn’t even GPS (which would push prices up. Hey, iPhone dealt with that).Main use feature they say is being able to search for places (of which you can have directed instructions how to get there).

Instead of having to use GPS or data for positioning, they use SMS for triangulating your location – a good option for those without data plans.

Maps for S40 is due for future S40 devices.
