My Dream Nokia #31: Nokia 950 Windows Phone Touch and Type (E6 design)

| August 29, 2011 | 13 Replies

Good Morning. It’s Monday. Let’s start with a refresh of the My Dream Nokia. It’s an Alberto Pietrobon design, and thus it is another touch and type model, his favourite form factor.

This is a Windows Phone version of the Nokia E6 and he calls it the Nokia 950 (aiming quite high there, I’d rank it amongst the 7 series myself).

The name is 950 because with the new naming system, the 900 is for the highest series, and so starting from 950, 951 etc… they could be the names for the QWERTY devices. Whereas 900, 901… the names for the full touch screens.

As you’ll note this has a 3 column Windows Phone tile, as well as the three Windows Phone specific buttons. We’re not actually sure if Windows Phone could go to this style of form factor (at least speaking of the screen size/aspect ratio). At the very least possibly increase the size beyond that 2.46″ screen. I hope Nokia continues making phones that are touch and type portrait QWERTY though as they still have a market.

The specifications he’s left up to our readers, it will of course have to meet the minimum specifications for Windows Phone. Being in the 9XX league, that would need to be pretty high. Again, I am not sure something that could have such a small screen today could deserve a 9XX branding.

Here’s a white version.

About “My Dream Nokia”

I’m sure you’ve dreamt up your PERFECT Nokia device/UI. What it would look like, what it would feel like, what features it would have. Why don’t you share it with the world? Or at least with other Nokia fans :D .

It could be your own photoshopped or rendered work (seriously, you don’t need mega skills in either, basic paint job is often enough to convey a concept) of your dream product.

SEND this in similarly to tips@mynokiablog.com with the title “My Dream Nokia” and perhaps the model number (and a little description, maybe a few specs in the message area? Though this bit not necessary).

Who knows, maybe an image might flutter over to Nokia and through whatever route end up being real.

  1. If it weren’t for the app resolution/screen ratio problems that would probably occur on the device, that would be one hell of a Windows Phone!

it is so ugly with wp7 on it

wp7 is not for type touch

Y’know what you are right well done.
Now GTFO becuase that is not a vaild argument
and you biased opinion does not matter

      • jr says:

Am a wp7 fun but this thing looks ugly on such a small screen. unless they rework the homescreen I doubt they will use this.Unless they do it like the n7 the keyboard wouldn’t work.

    • stound says:

look at htc chacha, its fuglier and the difference with this concept phone is…its real

  3. MrQwerty says:

If you’re not going to have the D-Pad, at least have the four arrow keys at the bottom right of the keyboard.

  4. Dan McGuire says:

Thing is If the e6 had these two things I would buy it in a heart beat and I just can’t because of these very silly, very Nokia mistakes:

    1) Small screen. It’s just two small for a touch, 2.8 is a good size.
    2) Auto focus camera

That is it. If it had those two thing Nokia would be have sold me an E6 and I would have been very happy.
    Shame.

  5. jr says:

Thing looks ugly.. Wp7 will only work with slide keyboards so the large screen size could be maintained.

  6. McQwerty says:

It needs a LED Notification light.

Have loved my E71, except for the small screen. Now liking this concept. I’m no photoshop expert. Anybody want to try and do a Nokia flip phone, with Windows, so the screen can be profile, larger, and touch; and still have a full keyboard. That would be my dream. Stick it in the pocket and not have to worry about key presses or screen damage. Not too worried about “thinness.” Got to be be high end, so name it E951.

for some reason it remindaed me of the bold touch!
