Video: WP7-Green Launcher demoed on Nokia N8, Free at Ovi Store.

| September 25, 2011 | 20 Replies

MMMOOO are famous for making several launchers on Symbian that mimic those of another OS, popular ones being their iPhone and Android shells. It’s interesting to note that they’ve gone and made one for Windows Phone.

They call it, “WP7 Green Launcher” and it’s available at Ovi Store for free. I’ve downloaded it for my N8 and it looks quite nice IMO.

  • Green tiles, white background (cannot be changed)
  • Can open relevant apps as indicated by tile
  • Cannot swipe right into app menu
  • Does not have flick/smooth scrolling.
  • Still early phase, MMMOOO say they will release a new version which would be more WP7 like.
I’ve made a video to show it in action and against an actual Windows Phone. Note, WP isn’t just green squares that are fat icons. They are more akin to widgets, giving live information. Many aren’t even that one block colour. Most are actually quite colourful and bright.

and also live tiles instead of static icons. So for example show number of unread e-mails, or weather temperature or tweets or friend’s photos or… now that i think about it the launcher has ways to go. but it’s a start and nice one too
