RIP Steve Jobs.

| October 6, 2011 | 68 Replies

It was already a big shock to many when Steve Jobs stepped down as Apple CEO amidst health concerns. Now unfortunately as you may have read everywhere, Steve Jobs has passed away.

I was just about to go to bed after finishing some uni work when I saw some emails about this topic. Sure enough twitter is filled with messages about Steve Jobs, and the unfortunate truth that he is dead.

Although this is a Nokia blog, Steve Jobs more so than any other person or entity has rocked Nokia to the core with his ground breaking iPhone. Regardless that he’s ‘the competition’, he has my utmost respect. He was undoubtedly a brilliant man who has shaped how technology is perceived and used. He was a man all about the product, from conception to delivery and finally marketing. The latter is something we have been in awe of, in particular, his famous reality distortion field and incredible way of changing perception. He made sure that it wasn’t Apple products catering for a need – it was making an audience cater themselves towards Apple products.

Steve Jobs lost his battle against cancer at a relatively young 56 years, but in that time has achieved so much. You just have to read a fraction of his history and the tributes appearing to be amazed.

Can there ever be another brilliant visionary like SJ?

RIP Steve Jobs.

  1. » BREAKING NEWS: Steve Jobs has died | October 6, 2011
  1. Diego says:

anyone on a computer cience related formation problably watched pirates of silicon valey, that movie shows a very disgusting part of this guy, he made some mistakes like split his company between apple and mac(or something like, i cant remenber now) to provide competition

for me he was a jerk, but however, for good or evil he is in a better place now(ihope so) and he really did a good job changing the mobile word, iphone, ipod, ipad etc…

    • IamWalrus says:

For all we know, he could be in a worse place. I certainly hope not.

    • John Wayne says:

I agree somewhat with Diego. It’s sad that a human being is gone but it pisses me off watching everybody kiss Steve’s ass just because he was rich and famous. The dude sold LUXURY items to style obsessed people. He only cared about profit.Nothing he did was for a better world. It was only for personal gain. I never liked him or any of his “inventions”. It’s disgusting how these rich fu@#ers are admired and praised by the masses. Soulless corporate leaders are today’s heroes and role models. It makes me sick…

      • Cocco Bill says:

+1, except I don’t give a flying fuck the he died, like I’ve never given a shit when some other corporate asshole have died. Good riddance. One less self centered egomaniac asshole in the world.

It’s a extremely perverse world we live in when selfish sociopaths like Jobs are worshiped like what we see now. Apple really is a religion, or cult is probably more accurate, and Jobs is hailed as its messiah.

And then the revisionist history that is going on now when Jobs is claimed to be the inventor of pretty much everything. It’s disgusting and very enlightening at the same time to see how the media changes the facts and creates a new false reality.

With all the money, wealth and fame, Jobs did nothing to better this world. Compare him to Bill Gates and how he uses his money to better the world. Compare Apple to Nokia and see how those two companies are totally different when it comes to ethical and ecological behavior. Apple just exploits while Nokia is trying to be ecological and ethical in its business.

Even though I was not a fan of his business practices and Apple products, I admired his dedication, enthusiasm and charisma (R.D.F anyone?).

As we shared a liking for black turtlenecks, I’m wearing one today.

My condolences for his relatives, friends and fans.

  3. Nokia Fan says:

Amazing Human being, RIP Steve Jobs

World will always remember his great work and will respect it for ages.
May God rest his soul in peace…. Steve Jobs !!!

    • suyashxp says:

OMG !! Now who will innovate new things ??? How will his competitor will copy and earn there Bread and butter !!

      • Mark says:

Oh I imagine places like PARC will still exist. You know, the place that Steve ripped the GUI for Mac OS off?

Sad day but don’t get carried away, ok?

  5. Harmattan boy says:

Great innovator and truly charismatic leader – RIP Steve. Even a Nokia worker in cold Finland felt a stab in his heart this morning.

Now the Nokia comeback and final victory won’t taste as good.

  6. EmmanuelM says:

    Rest in Peace Mister Jobs.

You gave me passion for IT when I was a teenager and inspired my life..

    Sad, very sad

  7. callmeIgnorant says:

I thought Steve passed away after watching Tim cook presentation and how the market reacted to the news of iPhone4s. He passed away a day after it. Hope he could see the downfall of Apple.

But he is was great man, aggressive and vision for technology. RIP Steve, hope you took an iphone or an ipad to kill ur time in heaven with god.

  8. نوكيا says:

    Thanks Jobs

  9. Raja says:

Thanx a lot Steve for giving great products and inspiring the competetiors to also raise the bar . The keynotes will be never be the same again .truly a sad sad day .

  10. vasu says:

reading the posts here, one cannot help smell the stench of m$ fan boys pervading nokia circles.

  11. John says:

RIP Steve Jobs, a great human being and an inspiration to us all. Steve proved that with passion, dedication and continued hard work we can active anything we want. I am glad to be a Apple customer and look forward to buying more products inspired by an incredible human being.

  12. “For the past 33 years I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”

This is one of my favourite Steve Jobs’ quotes. I wish I had just a tiny fraction of his courage, insight and understanding of what makes people happy and fulfilled.

The tech industry has lost it’s best lens.

  13. Emil says:

    I’m really sad :( R.I.P

  14. realtechie.. says:

c guys not only he was the co-founder of apple bt he was inventor of g.u.i and mouse which changed the way of computing and don forget pixar animation studios.

    • rich says:

no he didn’t invent either of them, he just popularized them like the touchscreen. he didn’t start pixar.

      • Johnny Tremaine says:

Actually he sort of did. Jobs bought the company, which simply did computer graphics effects for films, at the time.

Jobs is the one that pushed them to venture into feature film animation, and was involved in the actual story and artist meetings at the company, on films like Toy Story, Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo.

Make no mistake, without Steve Jobs there would be no Pixar today, and Disney wouldn’t have the revived animation studio it now has.

  15. sky juice says:

the man who create technologies in colorful way…. R.I.P mister steve jobs…

  16. zaxxx says:

    R.I.P Mr. Jobs.

  17. bad_wolf says:

For sure he was no saint but it’s never my style to piss on dead men’s graves or people who can’t hit back or defend themselves.

If you’ve seen The Pirates of Silicon Valley, you would realize that everyone stole from everybody. Apple stole ideas from Xerox while Microsoft stole from Apple. There was a scene where Jobs confronted Bill Gates about this and Gates just simply replied: “While you were busy stealing from your neighbor (xerox) you left your door open for another neighbor to steal from you.” (or words to that effect…you should watch that movie)

Having said that, I have enormous respect for people who thrive in adversity and bounce back from the gutter. His products are a marvel in the sense that people love using them. I think that’s one of his biggest contributions to our world and change the we way we viewed technology.

  18. what is wrong with me says:

    R.I.P. Steve Jobs

  19. amey nerkar says:

    My facebook status reads:

    Steve Jobs….
You made other companies realize what potential they had
You made other companies realize the beauty of design
You made them realize what software-hardware integration can do
You made them realize how products should look, feel and interact
You made them watch every keynote of yours
You made products and created new categories for them
You made Apple Inc. what it is today, but you also made all your competitors learn and took them where they are now…..
    My respects to you……Amey Nerkar
