Nokia Lumia 800 tops the PhoneHouse sales in France (largest independent mobilephone retailer in Europe)

| November 4, 2011 | 37 Replies

Here’s a refreshing set of words strung together. Nokia Lumia 800 is selling well!

Something that has plagued Windows Phone is that it wasn’t attracting the sales. It was the unknown against the familiar greenbots and iThings. Sales folk didn’t know what it was so certainly consumers won’t be informed any better. It did lack apps, as was in first iteration still needing to mature (as well as wider spread app store, language support and improved hardware).

A worry was – what on earth could Nokia bring? Could they really sell Nokia with Windows Phones?

According to windows-phone7.fr, Nokia can bring it. They can sell Nokia Windows Phones. Nokia Lumia 800 has topped the chart of Phone House (Equivalent of CarPhoneWarehouse in the UK). As we always introduce it, that is the LARGEST independent mobile phone retailer in Europe with 1700 stores.

More amazingly, this is BEFORE the huge marketing push. Before the new sales team that are taught what to showcase, before the Lumia 800 ads and promos. What more when that arrives?

it’s only pre-orders. Lumia 800 is not yet available here. It will be on 16 november. Nexus Prime will be sold the 17th and galaxy Note 25th…

  7. Challipo says:

Yeah normal because it’s the only store which sell the lumia !

  8. dfs says:

I living in France, Paris. Actually I can see ads for HTC titan. there are some Phonehouse’s boutique which have some ads for Nokia 800 but that’s all.

  9. Nagol says:

And idiots and followers got the nerve to say that Nokia should’ve went with android hahahah where are those idiots now?

    • migo says:

They’ll still hang around as long as Android is the leader in marketshare.

    • Jay Montano says:

Unfortunately there’s not much room to troll here. It might get worse for them IF it actually sells well. But that will obviously still be a negative thing. In some way, in some form, everything about the Nokia WP is bad. I hope all Nokias do awesome.

  10. FireDragon says:

Yes, Make money through WP and put it into Symbian/MeeGo.

    • weirdfisher says:

      joke

      • Jay Montano says:

Actually that’s not a big of a joke as you think. What Nokia produce through NWP will all be fed back into Nokia developments, to Nokia WP future but also to Nokia future disruptions – the swipe team etc.

        • N9 says:

Not sure Nokia is able to pull out a decent profit from the LUMIA…just do the math… more than significantly cheaper (point of sale price) than the very similar N9, has to pay royalties to MICROSOFT is not made by NOKIA (nokia factories do not make it COMPAL does with a profit)… On top of that put all the money they plan to spend on marketing.

I’m afraid that even if it sells very well it might be another financial disaster for NOKIA and that is very sad :( .

Maybe the N9 will sell ok and can compensate for all of this…

          • FireDragon says:

The way Nokia is doing all of it, they are showing they really OWN the WindowsPhone. No one else including Microsoft presents WindowsPhone the way Nokia is doing. So for doing all of it and for letting go of their owns I think there should be much more in the return to Nokia. Afterall, the hardware is pure Nokia and with such marketing and not to forget with such piece of slick hardware look, the business is a SURE so money is to come.

What Nokia will earn with it is not only the money, whatever their cut will be, but most importantly the lost name of Nokia will surface again much more strongly into consumer market. Which means the dust will settle down for Belle (+) devices soon.

Consumer will see Nokia’s device and they might look more of Nokia’s range. So yes make money and put it back into Nokia.

Does anyone think the new Nokia Suit looks fugly?

  12. dr_zorg says:

    Posted this elsewhere already, but..

This is just one week’s ratings.

Lumia 800 is compared to old models – it’s new, no wonder it sells.

Evidently this is only from one store chain (even though the largest, biggest, greatest w/e).

The N9 is not available in France, and this is the N9-clone hardware-wise.. looks sell I guess.

    No numbers?

I’m sorry, but I’m a bit skeptical that WP would all of a sudden top all the charts in this way. This is why numbers of actual sales are the only valid criterion for making such a statement – where are they?

    • Jay Montano says:

We haven’t got any numbers but I don’t think that takes away from the achievement of getting a just announced but unavailable phone at the top of a sales list, one that is supposedly hated and will not get anywhere.

The funny thing is, if this were the N9, there would be no questions on the numbers (e.g. the sold out numbers in Finland for N9). It would be taken as a positive. Since it’s WP, it has to be put down. I like the fairness.

      • N9 says:

C’mon be honest Jay, wen the news about the N9 64gb preorders in Finland being maxed out all the WP fans were saying that it was just a couple.

Dough I will take that as a half good news, even if I don’t see how Nokia can make a profit out of that phone..

        • Francis says:

I think it should not be problem to everyone here if Nokia WP sell very well. If you don’t like it, just don’t buy.

For me, i don’t like the WP interface at the moment, so i bought N9 64GB.

However, i also wait and see whether MS can improve the WP and to convince me to buy it.

If Nokia WP can sell well, than all blasting toward WP is pointless !

      • BellGo says:

..The first thing that I asked (and others too) were solid numbers.

      • dr_zorg says:

Assuming the company doesn’t lie (those things were known to happen!), it would be an achievement – within the limits that I have posted above.

But I’m more likely to believe the success of a phone unsupported by its parent company and loved by the public, than one that is at best ignored and supported by handouts.

  13. vali says:

wow, i might actually order the Lumia 800 from France, because if you preorder it, you receive a Monster Headset for free !!!,

  14. Simo says:

Glad I went with the N9 over the 800, for now.

  15. spacemodel says:

According to a Nokia official during Telecom Xperience in the Netherlands pre order sales of the Lumia at the Phonehouse stores are below par, number in the tens.

    http://www.mobilecowboys.nl/nieuws/15446

Not that I expect that Jay will make a seperate post of this news, every not so positive news about the Lumia is no news at all.

    • Hypnopottamus says:

Why are you people posting here? You’re making it sound like Jay is part of this great conspiracy to make WP better than it is. You apparently haven’t read any of the NUMEROUS articles by this blog stating WP’s shortcomings. How many times does it need to be stated that this blog is a NOKIA blog. Anything/everything Nokia will be discussed.

I’ve become tired of the comment section at MNB. It’s become a pissing contest between WP fanboys and N9/Symbian fanboys. People just come on here to shoot down anything that is positive about the “opposing” OS. The discussions being had are no more than bickering fanboys trying to prove that their OS is better. One can hardly go through a discussion section without all the troll commentary.

      • leoplan2 says:

Attack the argument, not the person

        • Hypnopottamus says:

Try reading what I posted. I didn’t even attack him. I attacked his assertion that Jay isn’t fair and doesn’t post any negative aspects of WP.

          • N9 says:

Yeah I agree and I also agree that Jay is doing a superb job.

On the other end, lets not all pretend all is great and dandy and that the OS in use does present more than a few shortcomings, for nokia to be able to do a real flagship phone.
