Belle to roll out to EVERYONE at about the same time

| December 22, 2011 | 32 Replies

Yesterday we got wind finally of some definite official dates for Belle on the pre Belle devices.

That’s February 2012. Due to the updates being complex, in several countries, in various languages, in various networks, it takes time to roll out each variant. That’s why Anna is still not on all devices (it’s on most and was in the first month right?).

Nokia twitter’s tweets suggests that this staggered (long staggered) updates may not be as stretched out as Anna.

Apparently, Nokia plans “to roll it out to everyone at about the same time” possibly in the frame at least of 2 weeks to a month, no?

Now some might find it odd that Nokia can ship N8 with Belle but not get it out to current devices. Well, consider it was the same situation with Anna N8s. Nokia has to picture in the actual update process, as opposed to loading Belle fresh themselves.

Many of you I’ve read have already put leaked belle on your devices as you couldn’t wait for the official ones on the N8 (and now other devices). I’ve read how it’s such an improvement for you guys, you just can’t even look at Anna anymore. I can’t wait to get official Belle for N8 too :D . That same change over Anna is what a lot of other users talk about when they refer back to even Maemo 5 or even other platforms that make the whole touch experience pleasant. It’s night and day right? Not something to be overlooked – user experience is key and usability possibly more so than the features makes up most of that.

Thanks bhavanishankar for the tip!

  1. Nokia Belle déployée « en même temps pour tout le monde » ? | December 22, 2011

Interesting. If they indeed do a more or less big bang type of quasi-global release, it is obviously one of the factors that has contributed to the release schedule being (only, some would claim) in February.

Still, let’s wait and see what “about” means. :)

  2. MoritzJT says:

Still no excuse for not having the images in navifirm and accessible by ALL the S^3 users at the same time… buy some fresh server farms!

    • Paul Grenfell says:

Agreeed.. Same thing happened with Anna.. Devices being shipped, but no Images on navifirm.
Are there still going to be months of carrier delays, irrespective of Official Roll-out date?

  3. Deep Space Bar says:

they should have been doing this from time

  4. Punching Bag says:

I’ll believe it when I see it.

And they even have an extra day, February 29.

  5. Sabino II says:

Wow from change of naming Symbian to Nokia also changes all, and maybe I would only go banck to Nokia OS (Symbian long time ago) if they again redesign it and follows the design framework of MeeGo Harmettan which is under QT and WOW Nokia OS Rocks!!!!

  6. Sun Down says:

Funny, it was only a few posts ago that everyone was ranting and bitching about how suckish and bad Nokia are for releasing the update in February. Everyone who attacked Nokia were really short-sighted to see that the world does not revolves around them and obnoxious enough to not think that that everyone should’ve gotten the same pie at once.

  7. lordstar says:

Hopefully everyone will be able to get belle by feb. How’s your N8 jay? Got it fixed already?

  8. Stound says:

I wonder If they’re gonna re-name apollo update to Nokia Apollo, and Nokia Phone 7

  9. Jason_B says:

i”ll believe this when i see it

  10. Angry says:

Nokia officiall announces the belle update on feb 30 :P

  11. SBW says:

picture this what if a customer walks in a nokia store with a n8 with anna and next to him someone bought a n8 and its got belle on it. i wonder what nokia would say if the guy asks why doesnt his phone has belle while he has to till march for it while a current paying customer got it rigth now!!!! its a fucking shame nokia !!

  12. SBW says:

btw can someone please tell me when was the last time nokia kept their promises? they say we all will get belle at the same time but i know for a fact they fucking lying!!!! when anna was delayed they suddenly changed the name from pr2.0 to anna now when we all was expecting belle to be out already they delay it to sell more phones in the holiday season and suddenly rename it nokia belle! do nokia really think us customers are that stupid?

  13. Josh says:

    So far so good.

Official just set a date, and release the update.
    And no more joke.

  14. incognito says:

While I find no real excuse for not having the Belle available for the N8/C7/C6-01 at roughly the same time refreshed versions of them start selling (‘roughly’ because it still is a bit different process of update compared to a fresh install) on the markets where those refreshed versions will be selling, the February target is quite realistic for the rest of the world.

It’s not just about the software and the update process – Nokia needs to ‘update’ the Nokia Care people in those markets so they could actually help to the users that have troubles with the Belle update, or with using it, they need to update the user manuals (in various languages) and what not, and that does take time. If they, for once, follow their announcements and actually do a world-wide update in February I think that they can be excused for the induced delay (Q4 2010 -> Feb ’12). Let us wait and see…

    • Cocco Bill says:

“they need to update the user manuals (in various languages) and what not, and that does take time.”

Whaaat? Those manuals should be updated already. They are shipping the phones with Belle update right now for crying out loud! What you are saying is lets ship the Belle phones now and then make the correct manuals available only after 2 months. I’m sorry, but it makes no sense. Unless Nokia has become totally incompetent.

      • incognito says:

They are not shipping it to all the markets, that was my point. It should be available immediately (or in a short while due to upgrade testing and such) after they start shipping it on the designated markets they’ve completed the cycle for (manuals, Nokia Care, websites, promo material etc.) because there is absolutely no reason not to.

Markets that are not receiving the refreshed N8/C7/C6-01/etc. should wait for that needed cycle to complete for their respective areas, and for those other markets February is actually quite a decent deadline.

  15. Janne says:

Really, I think we are witnessing one of the reasons Nokia is moving away from Symbian. People are complaining about many of the very things Nokia themselves have listed as reasons to move on about the state of Symbian. Maybe it is just too hard to keep up-to-date in a timely fashion with the convoluted variants and all, perhaps it is not just about the distribution mechanism but due to the sorry state of Symbian too. Maybe all this is exactly why Windows Phone is coming along (which btw has much more timely updates)…

  16. Patata says:

Guess that means that my N8 will see it in April/May “already” :D

  17. Hmmm. Three months for Anna. One month and waiting for N9 update. Clara will be announced before I get Belle. Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates.

  18. baba says:

bt why to go for belle if d ram is going 2 reduced by abt 40-50 MB for existing anna devices?
Jay plz tell wht ram u getting after reboot on ur N8 belle?

  19. baba says:

@Jay & all who’re using belle on anna devices
plzz how much of RAM u’re getting free aftr reboot?????????

  20. Fritz Pinguin says:

By the way, my N8 was just upgraded to Anna 025.007. The Update was not available OTA, only via Nokia Suite. Product code is 0599281 from Thailand.
