Upgrades to Nokia Belle software are beginning to roll out worldwide? #Symbian
Just as dsmobile had suggested about the beta labs Nokia Suite being prepared for the Belle update, the Nokia Developer site has said that the upgrades to Nokia Belle are apparently beginning to roll out world wide. That means it’s not here they’re just getting it ready so it will be here soon and progress for that seems to be going well (especially since they planned to have the update ready for everyone?).
Now it’s not expected until February right? We’ve got about just under 3 weeks left (19 days) till February. What’s the likelihood that Nokia might deliver a software update ‘early’ (we say early as originally we heard Q4 2010).
Cheers David for the tip!

Next week! Lol, I wish!
I saw the article on developer.nokia.com. Hopefully, we’ll see the Nokia Suite to be promoted to production in the next couple of weeks and the rollout in the first week of Feb.
Feels like Nokia wants to get the rollout done before MWC.. Anything new awaiting for the MWC???
Maybe we’ll get news of “Carla” at MWC…
I think Carla might come there with great camera. Not sure but I really hope so for Nokia’s sake.
Hope so… Would love to see the N8 successor there… Just the shape & the camera details..
If there is no Successor within 6-12mths..?
I really dont want to think about it.. Nokia 900 is the only option at present.. Pity it didnt have a decent camera.. Ah well, will have to wait and see.
I think Lumia 900 is best they can make for Q1,Q2 and Q3 2012. Q4 they might have something better but even that might be just dreaming.
Symbian Donna might be out before anything really major happens with WP.
Meltemi what ever that is I think will not come out 2012 at all. Only thing that comes out is S40 full touch with some new tricks.
Meltemi is reported to be a Linux-based smartphone operating system designed by Nokia for low-cost mobile devices, to replace the Nokia Series 40 feature phone operating system.[1][2][3] As a rumor this information became available from Wall Street Journal,[4][5] thought it was later confirmed to be true by The Register

Linux based but it’s still a big ? mark what it actually will be and What price range it will be.
Linux based software really do not have any limits with the hardware they can use it for.
Symbian Belle is already low cost too with Nokia 500 in my book.
Also is Meltemi for Africa or will they make it a world wide OS and even make it to US.
Meltemi will be a dead end if it’s made only for “poor” countries.
I agree, competing in low end is extremely difficult because of (IMO) all the knock-off dual sim phone. People in poor countries do not care about a brand they just want dual sim as cheap as possible.
Where do you think the newly bought smarterphone OS will come into this? Or is it to kill of the low end market?
My expectation is Mid 2012, BoM ~50 EUR emphasis on graphics processor and availability similar or more than the Asha series (meaning also countries like Finland)

Again I have to wonder, why on earth did Nokia change to WP7 when it’s not ready and the development is that slow? Now we at least know, that the reason couldn’t have been the much claimed slow development of MeeGO, because WP’s development isn’t any faster. In fact, considering that Microsoft is the biggest software company in the world, it’s pathetic.
I have a hard time believing that MeeGo couldn’t have been just as ready by Q4-2012. That’s almost 2 years more time that it would’ve had. And if not MeeGo, Nokia could have honed Meamo-Harmattan into something that borders perfection.
But Nokia did again what it did with N900 and Maemo before; threw away the ticket to success. Now they are left with WP that has no success at all and is disliked by probably half of the population because of it’s horrible UI alone. Then there are people who hate it’s closed nature and lack of basic features found in Nokia phones for years.
maybe msft is hedging its bet and holding back on development instead of going all out, considering their performance thus far it doesn’t seem like a bad idea
I suspect carla and donna were given the go ahead due to wp7 failures ..
And if half the population hates metro ui whats gonna happen to windows 8 …
they couldn’t afford to release it next month with what will happen…
good that they are pushing the date
It does sound like there making progress
Because 1 bug Belle did not come out December.
About the Nokia Suite Beta there is small change it might give a small head start for people who are using it to get the belle update to their devices.
Nokia has some internal Suite version for people inside Nokia that they can get head start for devices they have bought. May be betalabs versio could have something too. But it’s just a maybe no real information about that.
No wait, we all _know_ it was all just a conspiracy to further Elop’s agenda and to try to make the new Belle devices sell as we _KNOW_ Belle has been ready for months and months. Now you are telling us there was a serious bug? Who do you think we are?
/s
Yes, that’s a good idea, troll the only guy gives us any real information.
I put the sarcasm /s indicator at the end if you didn’t notice.
I swear thats a troll, not the real dsmobile
He/she has a different icon, i think
He also doesn’t comment like that, he’s more definitive
It is not a troll, that’s DSMobile. Trust me.
My bad
I double-checked a few things, seems legit
A-S-D that’s why I asked Jay to check the IP address of that guy since his display picture did change but I never got a response…
Elop has a mole in Symbian team that is making bugs to code. It’s true! =)
Hasn’t Symbian outsourcing to Accenture been 100% transferred?
Has anyone got any fresh info on how Microsoft is progressing with Microsoft office for Symbian?
Does anyone know the version that will be released? What version does the 701 currently run? Will there be any updates to Belle before Carla like v112 or something like that? Does anyone know what version Carla might be?
Monitor QTComponent BUGlist.
https://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTCOMPONENTS
Belle SR2 is in works, there is also bug listing for next major version after belle.
SR2 seems being tested against QT 4.8.0 and it may be last version of QT for symbian.

Same person also commented on multiple BUG lists.
It says Qt 4.8 to a Nokia device. It could well mean just the N9. Hope Symbian gets it…
Probably we’ll have to wait to the end of Feb, if not March for all Unlocked phones. Not to mention the delay that Carrier phones will get. For example Mine is an Unlocked N8 with PC 059C8T6, and it took around a month and a half to get Anna since Anna was released.
Nokia has said that they will bring the update to all the devices at almost the same time..
“We are progressing well in bringing Belle with a new look and feel to millions people across the markets at the same time”
http://conversations.nokia.com/2011/12/22/nokia-belle-your-questions-answered/
I just got Anna right after New Year for my wife’s pink N8 here in USA. I hope not to have to wait too long for Belle.
Oh, cool!
I didn’t even know about the Remote Device Access!
http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Remote_device_access/
Is there Symbian Belle for x7 right now.
sure
Wheres the evidence Belle is “beginning to roll out worldwide” ? Only links to original press releases i can see…Any confirmation?
Yes this site is now jumping to seeing Belle mentioned anywhere and starting to shout about it. really guys? the article just links to old conversation post and says “soon” and we know when nokia says soon its months away.
so short summary nothing to see here please move along folks! see you in february
Nothing yet on the navifirm for either the rumoured .609 release or the sr2 112x release.
i heard that skype is not supported in bella, is that true?
Skype said its coming in Q2
I wanna see a preview of Carla at mwc and at q4 they will be hinting about donna.. I’m just scared that Nokia might find the Symbian updates as a threat for windows phone as Symbian has progressed so much i mean look at what they’ve done with Meego.
I think we will see Carla by Q3, and Donna next year around this time.. just a guess.
Carla i suspect will be on uni core and dual core and donna on Dual core..
Wonder when Emmma will come along.
I was reading through this:
http://www.developer.nokia.com/Community/Wiki/Changes_in_Symbian_Belle_and_Qt_4.7.4
Quite a lot of changes.. For a dead platform, Symbian is evolving in a very strange way.
Yes… Indeed…
These changes have been in the pipeline for a long time..
Symbian as a core will die BUT the UI which is Qt wont, same story with Meego & swipe UI
donna will be the merge between the 2
Using a Linux core ?
Well, if the Symbian core dies, how will a build-for-Symbian Qt app will run on Donna? Qt doesn’t use a VM like .NET & Java..
I think Symbian core is going to stay even in Donna..
Whaaaat, you don’t believe in afterlife? By many religious accounts it is supposed to be far better than the one we actually have some proof that it exists – i.e. the current one.
Time to form a church of Belle, Carla and Donna. Amen.
They even talk about a PR1.1 for Belle. If current Belle in Nokia 603, 700 and 701 is PR1.0, will this PR1.1 be the one released for the N8 & Copany?
I am done on Nokia and all that bullshit of belle and carla/donna… I already seen Belle leaked so many times on the internet that I don’t want to upgrade my phone anymore, I just wanna sell my phone and buy an Android phone. simple as that…. I mean, they did everything wrong. While I’m waiting to Belle coming up I am seeing a 1000 of times a leaked version of Belle overthere.. not to count the time that I have to wait for Anna…. seriously, I’m going to sell my Nokia N8 without seen Belle on it.
Try Android n u’ll regret it n back
“like me”
Android= stupid slow lagy battery drainer java VM
Relax. I bought a phone 13 months ago and since than I’ve got a lot of updates – and now a refreshed UI that just feels like an new os. And even better: I don’t have to pay any cent for that! That’s capped by Symbians (err Nokia Belles..) functionality and flexibility (at least for me). So go, get your unique piece of android. You’ll see it’s the most shiny ui out there – and it just tastes the same on every mobile. But don’t start to cry if you miss the cool functions you’ve got used to
The same will hapen with Android. Are you sure Ice Cream Sandwich (or the next version) will get to your phone exactly when you want to?. I don´t think so….
You know what? I don’t think so. I can hope so, but I don’t believe Nokia will update this “soon.”
I hate when nokia’s telling ‘soon’. It means it will take looooong time!
Nokia Belle is a seriously heavy update. it’s taken 5000 people to move it from the production lines to shipping bay. Now it takes another humongous task to move it through the internet pipes. do you have any freaking idea, how critical and demanding it is to move the update faster ? anything more than a glacial pace is next to impossible!

Haven’t used it yet, but I should try it once.
