“And the Oscar goes to…Stephen Elop”…er..could The Academy Awards move to the Nokia Theatre in 2013? 710 at Costco?

Randy Paul from Laist is musing whether the Academy Awards and all those glittering stars after their oscar awards might move to The Nokia Theatre  after 2013 when the lease with Kodak Theatre is up.

• The venue is bigger with 7,100 seats vs 3,400
• More marketing muscle
• More outdoor space
• Venue better infrastructure for putting on shows
• Gradually drawing more events, e.g. Espy Awards and American Music Awards.

Despite all that, they may not be such critical deciding factors. Money could be an issue, with Kodak apparently filing for bankruptcy soon. Sounds like an Academy Awards curse for a tech company once the associated brand of that product to become a non entity. Though it could in contrast bode well for the Nokia brand if Nokia continues to make better phones that are competitive in the market.

Most likely the Academy Awards might just stay there. There seems to be a bond with that location, a cosy feeling, plus the location (some issue with being Down Town).

Costco, a major wherehouse chain in the US has the NokiaLumia 710 for Tmobile for 1 cent for new or upgrade customers. It comes with a free case and car charger. I actually saw it today, and it was quite nice
