Full refund on Lumia 800 after 40 days at selected retailers

| January 17, 2012 | 42 Replies

Here’s how it works. Purchase the Nokia Lumia 800 either online or in store with the participating retailers, and if you’re not satisfied, you can return it for a full refund after 40 days from purchase.

To me, this is a pretty sweet deal. There are so many Symbian users, and just general users, unsure whether or not Windows Phone will suit them. This gives them a great chance to see if it is the right, (or even one of the right) solutions for them. It would be nice to see this offer for the Lumia 710 and 900 as well, but let’s not be too picky.

If you are interested, click the source link and find out where to buy your Lumia 800, and how to go about getting the refund if you’re not happy.

“There are so many Symbian users”

Why are you singling out Symbian users specifically??? Gives a signal like you are anti Symbian…

    • James says:

Well Nokia use Symbian. And we are talking about Nokia.

      • Michael Faro-Tusino says:

Exactly. Plus, everytime WP is mentioned, it seems some Symbian users (not only restricted to Symbian) bash WP never having tried it.

Sorry If I made anyone feel victimised.

        • Patata says:

sure, since it’s impossible for you to accept that there are symbian users who dislike wp cause they’ve tried it ( together with the fact that MS is still an absolutly nogo for some)

          • S2Korpio says:

Well, since most of the time WP7 gets bashed, it usually compared to with Symbian or (still less) Meego. It’s hard not to put it in perspectives.

I have used the Lumia 800 long enough to realise its not for me ..

The metroui is horrid and i feel utterly restricted by it

          • jfjgfjgf says:

im not even sure how you came to that conclusion. @.@ where did he even mentioned that? wtf?

          • Jay Montano says:

It’s completely possible that people can try anything and still not like it. But there is an overwhelming amount of people who will bash something without trying it. You guys should know because a lot of tech blogs did it to Symbian (though it had faults, many just parroted complaints without knowing what it could do).

Just like it’s possible that people can also genuinely like it without being on the Microsoft pay roll as some lumia fans are often accused.

On the whole MS being a No-Go. Well if you refuse to try something simply because it’s microsoft, well then that’s fine. But then your opinion on the usability of that platform and how that fits Nokia’s intended target consumers isn’t too credible if you have no experience of it.

Only way to get really good market share with Windows Phone for Nokia is to really get the UI ideas from N9 to Nokia windows phones.

They need bigger DNA from Nokia’s design to make it successful. current design is not good enough for customers to jump from iOS or Android.

They claim that WP UI is easy and simple but it’s not really that simple. It’s actually pretty complicated with the hidden black and white buttons and menus.

Bashing an OS without even trying it, is one of Eldar Murtazin’s teachings.

          • Hypnopottamus says:

Or you can actually read what he said when he said “SOME Symbian users.”

    • Chris_Skylock says:

We have a complete set OS and in WP, it’s still back in 2002. We’ve come far and wide and we have adapted Symbian with a complete meal of our lives only to me moved to a newborn OS.

Let’s say you have everything in your house with your brand new car complete with high-tech gadgets inside only to find out that the you havent paid your taxes. All your possesions were confiscated and you’re back to square one with an apartment and a small TV, etc. How would that feel?

Symbian is a complete army. We dont hate WP, we’re waiting for it to mature like Symbian complete with everything

      • jr says:

Symbian is a piece of crap… give us a freaking break

        • Jay Montano says:

Symbian has many good points still. Its development was just poorly managed. It took way to long to get anywhere. Look at where Maemo was in 2009 in comparison to Symbian and then because of Symbian, Maemo then MeeGo did not advance to the pace it needed to.

Symbian still has good potential market if Nokia can get their act together on Belle, Carla and Donna.

      • jfjgfjgf says:

im a pharmacist student. symbian still dont have a 3d brain app, medscape app that allows me to quickly check drug interactions or the bnf.

now, i dont know if wp has them, but im pretty sure if somebody were to make them, it would be for wp.

      • Jed says:

The problem is not everyone has that mindset. Symbian still exists and still has devices, WP7 offers something different. Nokia is basically giving people the best of both yet a lot of people stomp on WP7 like it personally attacked them in the park late at night.

      • Viipottaja says:

The scenario is not anyone confiscating your possessions. It is where you will get to keep them, may get several updates still (Carla and Donna and perhaps more), and will get support through 2016 and even new devices at least through 2012, possibly longer.

:) – So indeed, enjoy your Mercedes (or perhaps its more like a 2009 Honda Accord with shaded windows, furry dice, 5000W sub, and 6 inch exhaust pipes). Your neigbor might opt to for a Leaf or a Tesla or Ferrari or Fiat 500 or Kia or whatever, but there is no need to mock him/her or feel jealous or recentful or betrayed or needing to defent your own choise for any reason. All equally valid. :)

        • j says:

hehe nokia is so naive. well i will leave nokia after the n9. im sill not sure whether there will be a n8 sucessor with symbian or not. something inside me says that this rumour could be a trick. and then i will leave to android or ios – or probably asha 303 – im dreaming of a phone with battery life of some days.

windows phone – no way the worst of two worlds – android and ios.

and im starting to hate nokia for it’s dirty tricks against the n9. on nokia austrias homepage its hard to find the n9 as a nokia product. you just can find it when you search for it.

          • incognito says:

Unlike some people around here, I don’t consider Elop a trojan (at least not yet) or a personification of evil – I do find him bafflingly incompetent, tho – but if there is one thing I truly despise him for is that he’ll eventually (if he continues with this lunatic strategy) push me to the Android world of pain.

And I know that Android is lacking in so many areas, and has so many ill-conceived concepts, that even the WP7 next to it looks like a more mature OS – but the WP7 is lacking in the areas that are the most important to me, not to mention that WP’s biggest problem is what it represents, not what it actually is. So, left with no choice I would have to go with Android. If I wanted an iOS-like system, I’d already be sporting an iPhone and wouldn’t look back.

I can only hope that by the time when I have to chose my next device, somebody will release something viable that isn’t as restricted and tightly controlled as iOS/WP is, nor is a data-mining tool of inconsistency and poorly conceived structure that is Android. Otherwise I’ll have to go with Android, and hate every second with it…

        • dsmobile says:

There wont be many Symbian devices actually coming with the Carla software. Camera phone might be only new model for Symbian Carla for 2012 and Belle phones will get the Carla update.

Also I haven’t get good enough look of the camera phone screen and I am afraid it still might be with nHD screen. Or it’s same resolution as N9 has.

There might be issue with the app’s there is already and you have seen that N9 the apps needs a new icons and layout because buttons will be too small if use same graphics as they use in Symbian anna/belle nHD phones.

    • Mark says:

Really. What other mass market smartphone OS – and no, MeeGo isn’t mass market – do Nokia use?

      Anyone?

      • jfjgfjgf says:

+1. seriously. everyone who keeps championing meego HAVE to understand that. Pre elop, symbian would STILL have been the answer to the android army.

Which means android is going to slaughter nokia from the very bottom to the very top.

NO doubt belle is amazing, but its released on 2012 for products released two years ago. One can argue the n8 will only be feature complete on 2012. I think even androids dont have an update that is two years behind schedule.

        • Jamison says:

“Pre elop, symbian would STILL have been the answer to the android army.”

Why? Pre Elop the plan was that Symbian would be gradually phased-out over roughly 2yrs.
Starting from about the N9′s release…

Over that period the no. of Maemo6x & then full MeeGo handsets /yr would’ve gradually increased in the high end.
To the point that Symbian would live only in the mid-to-low end.
And there was never an issue of ramping-up no’s of highends /yr based on MeeGo.*
That assertion (which Elop trotted out as a factor at one pt) was torn to shreds by one of Nokia’s lead engineers (Felipe C).

          Knowledge of history gives perspective.
          Excuse me if I don’t respond…
Not subscribing as I’m too busy these days unfortunately.

*there was an issue of getting to the point where it’d no longer be an issue.
But that was all thanks to years of crap before Elop.

          • Jamison says:

Oh and the time period was deliberate…
It could’ve totally supplanted the high-end a bit quicker.
But that was deemed as not the best way to go “at the time”.

            • troll says:

isaw his post and he being incharge of hardware.porting probably knew best. But he also admitted that there were no plans to produce mid range meego. If my memory serves me right, they weren’t suppose to exisit no?

I believe elopes announcement did little to change the lineup of symbian devices. And seeing how symbian 2010\2011 lineup is… there is no wonder why android is winning the mass market war. Symbian is not cheaper (Samsung galaxy y) nor more powerful (sgs 2) that its rival.

    • Jay Montano says:

how on earth did you even pick this out as a negative?

Are there many vocal readers here Symbian/MeeGo fans expressing doubt about Lumia? Yes.

So? How on earth is that in any way anti Symbian?

    • flava says:

short comment from an ignorant that ignite the flame :D

      amazing, i must say.

  3. dinex says:

I still can’t get the clue…Is it just a regional campaign or global one? I’m from Taiwan and Nokia here is pairing Lumia 710 with Purity headphones WH-920 for just the original price of the phone. But after reading this post, I find out it is really attracting if I can have a try on the flagship 800 8D

  4. Abhay says:

I don’t think people with Symbian phones really need to move to WP right now. They still have options of existing or future Symbian phones. May be in future they can decide to switch.

The WP is more of importance for people like me who are in US and don’t wish to buy an unlocked phone for higher price; specially considering the availability of other non Nokia phones at discounted price from their carriers. Symbian was never that popular in US, hence we did not see the higher end Nokia’s (like N8) for a discounted price. The news of Nokia + MS has created lots of awareness in US that people are now actually looking forward to Nokia phones (have you ever seen so much of talk about Nokia on the internet before?, specially the US bloggers?). So I may not buy a WP from other OEMS but since its a Nokia I shall definitely buy one.

Here in US, customers usually get one month for returning any product for free of cost.

  5. stylinred says:

doesn’t this seem a bit odd or fishy? anyway the deals only open to UK residents

    • stylinred says:

      and max refund is £399

      • stylinred says:

and they want your bank account details…

and they may value the item to be worth less than you paid for after the 40 days….

and you won’t get anything until 56 days after you’ve sent the item back…

i dunno seems risky if this was an offer in canada/us id suggest staying away since more times than not its a scam ;)

why nokia symbian operating system N9 does not make a device, such as 800 or 900
