Marko Ahtisaari hints at NFC and Wireless charging for future Nokia Lumias

lol. Bear with me. You should know by now I have no skills in photo editing.

Charles Arthur from the Guardian went to Finland to speak with recently appointed Executive VP of Designs, Marko Ahtisaari.

Charles says that Marko hinted at NFC and possibly wireless charging coming to future Lumias. NFC Elop has noted before but wireless charging (e.g. HP touchstone style things?) could be an option. But how on earth would PC transfers work? All wireless through WiFi? Well touch stone could also transfer over the dock cable right?

One of the design principles of the N9 is to minimise everything, cut everything out that isn’t really necessary. *Pooof* camera button, buttons and HDMI out and ports hidden away. And it worked. The N9 design and the subsequent Lumia 800 and 900 (which have the main shape) are winning fans, non-fans and even Nokia whingers.

“If you can take away a moving part and make it [the phone] more beautiful in the placement of the components, we’ll do it, so that’s something where we can certainly keep improving,” Ahtisaari told the Guardian. “Take it to the extreme, and why are there any connectors?”

Let’s glean what we can from Marko because everything this guy says is a hint of something big. E.G. Swipe on N9, Windows Phone on Nokia. These are all things he has hinted to which will seem quite a stretch at the time but look so clear when you look back.

It would be nicer to hear or watch what he actually says but from the quote, Marko seems to want to take moving parts away. That could mean sliders/tilt styles but more so possibly on reduction of connectors which Charles Arthur postulates as being removal of the normal charging connector.

Whatever the case, there’s certainly going to be more in the way of features. This perhaps being the Nokia stamp of features we’re used to? Apparently Marko reminded Charles of his analogy that we are likened to the days when the industry was deciding how to steer cars – in this context, how to interact with touch screens. We know Nokia are still active in Swipe and want to take that to new levels, to above and below price points.

Cheers Kaizer Allen for the tip!
