Rumour: Nokia N8 Successor the last Symbian from Nokia?SAYS WHO?

| February 4, 2012 | 153 Replies

I’ve been reluctant to post this as there’s nothing to go on based on the speculation of a source that revels in bringing bad Nokia news. It’s one a few of you have posted enough so I guess I’ll write about it. But seriously, what is the basis of it?

Whilst anything is possible, the reasoning that it’s because ST-Ericsson hinted significant decline as one customer for the short term has reduced orders. Where is the connection between Symbian being killed and low ST-Ericsson orders – possibly from Nokia? Were new Symbian handsets already moving from Texas Instruments? We know ST-Ericsson was going to provide some chips for Nokia Windows Phones. What if more of their Nokia Windows Phones for the time being got stuck on Qualcomm?

I’m sorry if I’m missing the connection here. I didn’t know Nokia was making Symbian on ST-Ericsson silicon (some blogs putting ST-Ericsson as major supplier of Symbian phones). There was news earlier of ST-Ericsson posting significant reduction in profits due to their largest customer, Nokia. Wow, I don’t remember handsets being made with ST-Ericsson stuff. Perhaps it’s another component I’m unaware of. What is this deal to make future Symbian phones from ST-Ericsson perhaps that I just cannot recall?

Key silicon partner ST Ericsson already hinted at the news when giving investors guidance last week. ST Ericsson said that a “very significant decline” in net sales this quarter was to be expected was due in part to the “reduction, in the short term, of new product sales with one of our largest customers.

Hmm…I’m so out of the loop here.

Thanks everyone for the tip.

I hate this blog that only try to sabotage symbian.
Wp was common before nokia get it, i dont understand why you get surprised of lumia, is the same thing of htc

Ha.. I understand that this blog owner is in one of official promotion video for Nokia’s Lumia recently, so what more from him if not promoting Nokia’s strategy ?? He like Lumia/WP very much and this is his own blog, you may selective reading (like me) if don’t like the heading, or just stop reading.

nononononononononononononononononoonononoononooooononoonoononononononononononoononononononononoononononononono nokia if there is no symbian. But if they put meego instead, I will agree about it.

  4. uk says:

this true that next camera king will be last symbian phone because nokia is killing symbian but not nokia belle or nokia carela and donna.

  5. James Scott says:

Symbian may not be that popular in the U.S. but it is in other parts of the world. If the rumors about Symbian Donna are correct and it is in the pipeline then why would Nokia release a OS that supports multiple cores without releasing a phone to go with it.

  6. DKM says:

Symbian is dead as symbian Belle, Nokia clara and Donna OS will live on.

All future phones that will be released after Belle will be Nokia Clara and Nokia Donna. There will be devices and you can see them coming in WMC in Feb end thats why they are pushing Belle before feb as the name symbian will not exists after this.

What I don’t understand is changing the name from Symbian to Nokia. When it was in-house it was called Symbian now that it is outsourced it is called Nokia? It seems back to front to me.

  8. symbego says:

It will be a good news if Carla is the last Symbian, Donna isn’t Symbian anymore, but completely different OS (Linux & Qt based)

    • lordstar says:

Maybe that’s what dsmobile meant when he said that Donna will come from a different family? And maybe that’s why Nokia changed the ui naming to nokia belle carla from symbian belle carla.

I really like the idea of Nokia Donna being linux and qt based. Hope it goes that way. End of symbian but the start of something better haha!
