Lumia Tips: Random

| February 18, 2012 | 16 Replies

We’ve had a couple of dedicated ‘Lumia Tip’ posts before (found Here & Here); today I’ll just go ahead and list some other useful tips/shortcuts that I’ve come across that hopefully will help you guys out as well.

  • Quick Unlock into camera/Search: You can unlock the phone without pressing the power button by keeping the Camera button pressed for 3 seconds, this will open up the camera interface for quick shooting; alternatively once you press the power button you can unlock the phone by pressing the ‘Search” capactive key which will open up Bing Search (provided Search Unlock is activated in setting)
  • Accessing Domain Shortcuts: While browsing get quick access to other domain shortcuts (.net/.edu/.Org) by pressing on the ‘.Com’ key for 2 seconds

  • Marking Multiple Emails: You can Mark Multiple emails by clicking once on the Left Side of the email subject (You’ll get little checkboxes similar to Symbian)

  • Quick Dial from recent calls: in Recent call log you can either view a contacts profile by clicking on his/her name and select which number you’d like to call; or you can click the circle with a phone inside (to the left of the contact name) to redial whichever number was registered in the log.

That’s about it for now; do you have any useful shortcuts? Let us know below.

What the F* are you saying?! Everybody knows about the camera thing. It has been heavily promoted as a windows thing, tjeeezzz.

Just save those things up then make a post about it.
Now it’s just a not even worth mentioning.

    • Hypnopottamus says:

What the fuck are YOU talking about. This article was rather helpful (unlike your comment). It starts a good discussion. You know, especially the part where he says:

“do you have any useful shortcuts? Let us know below.”

    • Vikas Patidar says:

it says random. so just bear it or stay away.

    • Mark says:

I didn’t know about the domain thing so this was useful.

I also learned that you’re an unpleasant individual with nothing to say.

      Quite useful really.

  2. filipe says:

the one with the other domains is very useful. i didn’t know about that tip. thanks! :]

  3. oh em g says:

Yeah right. It’s easy ripping on some new guy, tagteaming.

But let me ask you this? How many of you didnt know about the camera thing?

Thats right! Every ONE of you knew. Stop acting like a bunch of bitches. You know I’m right. It would be a better article if he saved them up.

Now he has 3 tips. 1 is irrelevant. The email thing most of you, if not everyone of you knew about that to. And the .com tip is a good one. But it’s not that good that it overblows the others. Like seriously how many times are you gonna use that(just bookmark the damn page).

So ya’all can keep hating. But you assholes know I was definitely right to critisize the part about the hold camera button to go into camera SEEING AS YOU ALL ALREADY KNOW ABOUT IT.

If you’re gonna critisize me, at léast bring ammo. Because the ones who had nothing useful to say was actually every prik who commented on me.

I gave the writer constructive feedback (YES IN A VERY INFORMATIVE AND RUDE WAY BUT CONSTRUCTIVE NONTHELESS)
What the F* did you do?

    • Aliqudsi says:

YEs your feedback was VERY useful, but in case you didn’t notice the unlock tip was two-fold there’s a camera unlock and a search unlock.

    • Mark says:

I didn’t so you’re making false assumptions as well as being an unpleasant little sod.

    • Hypnopottamus says:

You are a douche. This article was written to open up a discussion about “not so obvious” features on WP7. Aliqudsi listed some of these features with the intent of people chiming in. You also have NO ground to stand on since it wasn’t only the camera he discussed. What about the search unlock he mentioned? The domain shortcut was good also.

You speak as if you know what everybody knows/doesn’t know about WP. This blog is about helping others learn about all things Nokia. Not everybody is on the same page when it comes to features. If you already knew about them, well fucking good for you. There was NO point in you telling the author that his article was a waste. If you found this article of no particular use to you, then move on! Others might find it helpful.

    • Just Visiting says:

      @oh em g….

Please consider that there may consumers, recent converts from Symbian (or some other OS), that are new to WP and/or new to Nokia; and they may have just discovered this particular blog/site. Aliquidsi cannot assume that all of the readers of this blog are already aware of the ‘ins and outs’ of the WP OS.

Yes, while some that visit this site have Lumia devices, not all of us do. And clearly, from some of the posts, even those with WP devices were not aware of the tips provided by Ali.

  4. filipe says:

i found out that the domain tip is also appliable for the keyboard languages mate. :]

  5. Cornpopper says:

Due to the nastiness of some of these posts – why is that ?- I’ll try one question and hope for a civil response. While I’m sure the answer is basic it is still a mystery to me. What is the number that shows at the bottom of the lock screen. I know it indicates that I have something(s) unopened, but all my calls, texts, and emails are accounted for. What else can be opened.

    • Viipottaja says:

don’t know but could be e.g. twitter/facebook updates?

well, I am sure who does know will answer. :)

      • Cornpopper says:

Thanks Viipottaja. I’m not signed up on those accounts and all I use (puposefully) are text and browsing. I thought maybe I opened something by mistake and I suppose that could cause it.

  6. YESYESYO says:

Touch to focus on camera app.
U should activate it first from the settings
