Yesterday we took a look at Vaibhav Sharma’s gallery of Nokia 808 pictures taken at 38MP (Creative mode). Now let’s take a look at some pictures in the intended mode – PureView mode. Here we can see the advantage of oversampling and pixelbinning that combines 7 pixels into one super pixel as well as TrueZoom that adds versatility for framing pictures.

Vaibhav is impressed but notes these pics are from prototypes where the quality may still be improved.

Nothing on the market comes close to what Nokia is doing with the 808 PureView. They are once again reinventing mobile photography, just like they did with the N90

You can see that like in Nokia’s digital zoom style (evident even in older models) when you zoom in, the exposure is recalculated for that frame. In other devices, the exposure is still at the level of the view without having zoomed in.

The full PureView mode (non zoomed) look amazing but it’s awesome to have that flexibility in zooming without much loss in detail to the point you can’t tell you were zoomed in.

Thanks Mahoney for the tip!
