Steve Litchfield discusses the smart true zooming that is kind of available already on the Nokia N8. Of course, PureView is also about oversampling to create those ‘perfect’ or ‘super’ pixels but this post focuses on the decent digital zoom available on the Nokia N8.

Steve notes that unlike other smartphones, digital zoom on the N8 vs crops look pretty similar, showing the great job Damian Dinning and team did with the image processing.

This quality zooming is even more pronounced in video where the 12mp sensor allows zooming up to 3x without visible loss in quality (since you are not cropping from 1280×720 but from 4000×3000). The first time such a feat was witnessed (though not to the same quality) was in the N86.

Thanks Remco for the tip!
