Weekend watch: Smoked variants for France and South Africa
I don’t know why but this campaign is irritating me now. Yet it continues under new names in France as a ‘speed test’ and in South Africa as a ‘Lost to Lumia’.
Sure. Go ahead. Keep pushing this and ignoring other neat things about WP Lumia, Nokia. Tell me more about the wireless syncing. No wires. Just automatic. Show me the facebook album. Show me again, the people hub. Let’s do some demoes of Nokia Drive. ETC. Show me other things people might be interested in. Not just it doing a bunch of same things their phones can do but faster.
It’s all fun and all seeing people amazed at how quickly it’s doing these same set of actions, but seriously there’s other things you should be promoting. Whilst all this is happening are we actually even seeing the steps of what’s happening anymore? No. We’re just seeing the tops or the sides of phones and then finally someone saying ‘Done’. What’s the point. What’s the actual message?
Be a little bit more imaginative guys.

Those white Purity headsets are looking pretty slick though.
Cheers Daniel Johansson for the tip!

Its just publicity, just so they can say “smoked” – but it works..Yeah, i agree, there are lots of other good features, but its all about fast on the spot domination. Try a BT file transfer and see who gets “smoked”
By that response, why don’t we have a test to see who can take a 38MP shot.
Here, all phones have the same feature, one way or another – it was just better implemented in another device. That’s all this shows. But I don’t think this is enough to promote WP and I think they’re wasting their time on this and this SmartphoneBetaTest BS.
Thats true., so its all about taking your best features and “smoking” with that, The 808 could be used in a similar marketing technique. The “smoked by” Lumia campaign has been effective no doubt, but sure, it would be nice to see them highlight some other features of the Lumia devices for the Public..
Im still looking at the 900 for my second phone, but im not absolutely certain yet.. There would be others in that same situation, not fully aware of what the Lumias can actually do , at least no public awareness like the “smoked” campaign.
Yes , it would be nice if the diversified their campaign..
I agree.
What this tells the world is the only thing this phone does is upload a picture to facebook. MS’ own smoked stuff is a little bit more diverse. Nokia seems to have seen it as popular and got lazy.
I know I called for consistency in their Amazing Everyday campaign but I did not mean consistency to the point of dull and boring.
It’s about getting the right message sent across. Whilst it’s good to show and demonstrate WP is fast, this doesn’t tell users enough about this platform.
For those watching participating, it might be some fun. For people watching back the videos, I feel it’s a waste of bandwidth. I’m sure Nokia will still continue to churn our more crap of this nature with new and uninteresting names.
Agreed. Diversity is the key word here.
