  1. Frustration about delays Nokia 808 PureView | PureView Club | May 31, 2012
  1. PureViewClub says:

Hi Jay, I think the black version has had this price since about two weeks (see http://pureviewclub.com/2012/536). The white version however, it not available at the moment.
    Cheers,
    Marc

  2. Dave says:

Think I’d be likely to be ordering one in black anyway …. now, do I cancel my order with Clove (who are still putting it as mid-late July) and place a new pre-order with Amazon?

  3. BeastMode says:

this isint the first time they had it up at that price, they did a week or so ago at 499 then they took it off for a bit and now put it back up again yesterday, dunno what to believe now, clove said mid to late july amazon say end of june, then again didn’t from someone from nokia say the 808 will be out in the uk by the end of june?

    • Dave says:

I’m wondering if the potential buying power of Amazon has anything to do with this.

I really could do with the 808 before the end of June, not that its the end of the world if it turns up later. A few nights out, parties and birthdays to attend that could do with a decent compact imaging device.

Nokia are really messt up they dont even know themselfs i think! bunch of fannys! Look at samsung about 3 weeks ago they revealed the S3 now you can get one in the shops.thats wat u call keeping your customers happy.not like nokia still pussying about wen they gona release it or wat price.the 808 was shown in mobile world congress about 3-4 months ago makes me sad no wonder NOKIA are struggling!!!

    • Dave says:

But the 808 and S3 are totally different devices.

The S3 is just a point evolution up from the S2, no major R&D, nothing new, nothing really great or innovative in there.

The 808 has an imaging sensor way beyond anything thats ever come to market (at least at the consumer level), and making the best use of that is what is likely causing the delays (not that any concrete release dates have been given for the UK).

      • st7761 says:

In camera, agree with you. Except Camera, SGS3 has the best HW spec.

        • twig says:

I looked at the 3 but didn’t like it. It has a few useless new features but still the design sucks and its still an outdated android device.

        • Dave says:

You really didn’t understand my point, I’m not talking about HW spec.

The SGS3 was a relatively simple device to make – just slap in a faster processor, bigger screen. Done. No major R&D work, just a simple H/W upgrade. We aren’t talking about a device that they’ve been working on for 5 years here, its had a short – and simple – gestation.

And of course Android *needs* a fast processor to run as smooth as even my ancient N8.

          • PureViewClub says:

I think you are underestimating the amount of R&D Samsung has given to the UI of the S III. I have it since yesterday and the ease of use and ways it actually “reads your mind” are really astonishing. The development is not so much in the hardware, but more in the software this time. And the hardware itself leaves hardly anything to be desired, although some hoped for a 12MP sensor.

  6. genXhippie says:

Lets to honest, no one in hell would have bought this phone for 695.03 imo. Even 500 is really pushing it, since Symbian is on its way out, everyone knows this. I’ll replace my N8 with the 808 a month or two its release, when the price will probably plummet. I bought my previous Symbians (N95, N82, N97(sucked), and N8) upon release, but not this time. It just isn’t worth it at this stage of the game imo.

  7. genXhippie says:

EDIT: “I’ll replace my N8 with the 808 a month or two after its release,…..”

  8. weirdfisher says:

I’ll get this as n8 replacement asap
however i dont think most people will care about imaging in smartphones, some people even think 808 is a dumbphone with good camera!

  9. Paul Grenfell says:

$636 Australian.. A spot on and affordable price
    Great..

  10. windowskeys says:

  11. s3m44 says:

We are waiting for this device since early May. Just go to youtube, and you can see tonnes of “Shut up and take my money” comments in 808 videos.

Again Nokia fails to deliver a significant device on time, delay again and again, even fail to proposed a confirmed release date.

I remember Elop has addressed the problem, and said Nokia will shorten the delivery delay. However, the outcome is still disappointing…

  12. stylinred says:

hopefully that means clove will bring their price down they cost more than all the competition now

    • Dave says:

I’m more interested in the date than the price. I don’t think anyone knows when the 808 is due to be released, as no two suppliers have the same dates in the UK.

      • stylinred says:

i agree i was really concerned with the release date because i wanted to get the 808 for my travels this summer but even with amazons date it’d be too late for me :(

        • Dave says:

I’ll already be missing a gig that I was wanting to record (in two weeks time), will have to make do with the N8 …. it was the audio that I was more interested in for that one.

But as long as June is on the money, I think i’ll have to swap over from Clove – assuming that they don’t change their due date (again).

  13. PureViewClub says:

As far as the price is concerned, difference in Northern-Europe alone are crazy – between the UK and Germany for instance! I wrote something about it yesterday (http://pureviewclub.com/2012/536).

As for the launch: it’s inevitable there will be at least some time between the moment you announce a device and the actual time to get it out there. I remember last year it took Samsung a bit more than three months with the Galaxy S II.

Now you may think that Nokia is stretching it, but I remember when it could sometimes take up to a year after their announcements. Also I remember the time that consumers became furious about buggy software of too early launched devices, degrading them to beta testers, eagerly awaiting the necessary upgrades (remember the N96?)

Actually I think it’s not so bad there is a reasonable amount of time between announcement and launch. I’m sure people would rather wait for a few more weeks, months even, when they really know they want this device – and not be sorry they bought something else because they never saw this one coming.

So the question remains: what’s a “reasonable amount”? It depends on many factors I think, like is it just an updated or a revolutionary new device? I think the last one applies in this case an it obviously needs more time. And I’m impatient too, but I prefer a steady OS myself.

  14. Zymesh says:

been hearing 808 is out now in Dubai not sure if thats true but, Heres another post about Nokia UAE saying 808 will be priced at 2190 AED and will be released on end of May

    http://senseapplied.com/index.php/nokia-808-pureview-to-land-in-uae-by-4th-week-may-2012/

So that would be around 26k php

  15. Cod3rror says:

Let me know when it’s £250, it’s not worth more than that.

Severely outdated hardware, dead(It is DEAD, do not even argue) OS.

The only redeeming quality is the camera and the half assed, outdated Nokia Maps with functions that lag behind the competition.

This phone can do only 3 things, camera, calls, maps. That’s it.

£500 for that? Lizard, you crazy?

    • KF says:

the good old Cod3rror is back!

I though iPhanboys don’t care about nokia anymore :P

    • stefan says:

Usb on the go(way better than d androids),hdmi 1080p 5.1 (which other phone does it ?),fm transmitter

guys like u should never buy it
u dnt even know its potential

      agreed its got outdated hardware
but its not affecting its performance
      its fast n fluid

android has set a phase in mobile industry
no matter which device u buy looking at its hardware
it will get outdated within 6months -1year :P

so its way better to buy a device with this camera :)
at least it can only be beat by nokia themselves :D

    • genXhippie says:

I agree, except Nokia Maps is the best on market today imo, I love that my maps are always on board the phone, data is never an issue.

      • Cod3rror says:

iPhone and Android have MUCH better third party maps apps like TomTom, CoPilot, etc…

Check them, so much more functionality than Nokia Maps, and they are preloaded/on board too.

        • wikolo says:

really last time I used android navigation it wont even give me direction without data, I expect the same with iphone.

          • Cod3rror says:

You haven’t even used it and you just make assumptions huh?

Try it, you won’t regret it. You will realize that you are wrong and Nokia Maps and the whole Nokia is years behind the competition.

            • genXhippie says:

Are those 3rd party apps you mentioned totally free including voice nav, same as Nokia maps?

              • Cod3rror says:

No they are not, but what would you rather do? Pay $50 and have a much better phone and a platform or waste $500+ on a phone with a dead OS and outdated hardware that has a “free” GPS… that is not that good anyway.

The price for GPS is included in the Nokia retail price, you don’t get it for free.

                • wikolo says:

maybe you’re the one who has not use nokia map (maybe youre still using old nokia map). Its even better than most or on par dedicated gps available now.

You lose the argument when you mention $50.

                  • Cod3rror says:

I know how to use it very well.

Can you add multiple stop points in Nokia Maps? Does the Day/Night mode even auto switch?

Anyways, it’s no point arguing, you have no clue what you’re talking about, you have only used a Nokia, you do not know what is really available.

Don’t worry though, you will be using Android or iOS, when Nokia goes away, you’ll have no other choice but to upgrade.

                    • Jay Montano says:

Comparing Nokia Drive to a dedicated satnav in the past, Nokia Drive starts faster, finds places faster, has more accurate routes, and has helped get the dedicated and lost sat nav user find the proper way.

That’s obviously anecdotal but the point is that Nokia’s free mapping solution is really good and quite awesome to have free on your phone.

My friends with iPhones/Droids don’t actually even use their phone satnavs. Many haven’t bothered downloading additional ones or haven’t worked out how to get it to work offline.

                • genXhippie says:

You’re correct 500 is too much for any Symbian phone this late in the game. But I don’t plan on spending that much. As I stated previously, “Even 500 is really pushing it, since Symbian is on its way out, everyone knows this. I’ll replace my N8 with the 808 a month or two after its release, when the price will probably plummet.”, based of current other releases. The Symbian phones just don’t hold their value in the market. Btw, I own 3 unlocked phones now (N8, iP4S(jb), and SGS2 (ICS)). I prefer using the N8 over the other two phones for photography and GPS.

                • heyyou says:

I’ll gladly pay 500+ for 808 outdated it maybe in some category but the camera alone would worth my money. Lot of people bought iPhone

                • heyyou says:

I’ll gladly pay 500+ for 808 outdated it maybe in some category but the camera alone would worth my money. Lot of people bought iPhone when it come out and still now. Iphone for me only worth 450 back then with all its hardware being outdated.

  16. heyyou says:

This is just another big fat lie. Didn’t they say early may at first then they confirmed end of may release on India and Russia. Now is June next they’llsay July… August… September and so on. Elop and Microsoft are mad of the 808 massive popularity that the only way it won’t cannibalize lumia sale is to keep delaying it, till nobody else remember 808.
I’ll wait one more week then I’ll buy s3 if it still not available.

    • EmmanuelM says:

i don t think this will happen.. elop and nokia are now in critical financial situation and they need a litlle bit of cash to survive a few more monthes..

      • PureViewClub says:

I agree with you. It could very well be the 808 PureView proves to be a blessing in disguise for Nokia, even running on the so-called “dead” Nokia Belle.

      • heyyou says:

You’re missing the the big picture here. Nokia stock plummet make it easier and cheaper for Microsoft to buy it. If Elop planned was to save Nokia why is he mishadling and won’t boldly promote their best and most anticipated product. I don’t know much about marketing but if people want it give it to them. Nokia is not in the position to alienate their remaining fan’s, well unless they wanted too.

  17. D'fire says:

so it has 41 Mpx largest and highest
resolution sensor in a cameraphone with Carl Zeiss optics lens , it will created amazing and Astonishing photos.
can i installed instagram on it ?

    • Doffen says:

      Why?

      • marco says:

So that you can take those brilliant 41mp pictures and make them look like you took them through a dirty coke bottle.

    • Dave says:

Instagram has been created to create a faux old fashioned effect from images that are otherwise dull and boring.

Learn to do proper photography, for which you don’t actually need intstagram (or for that matter a 41mp sensor).
