PhotoSynth (Awesome Panorama app) Now Available for WP (Gyroscope Preferred)
PhotoSynth is a really cool app that was just released for WP; it basically allows you to do full 360 degree and spherical panoramas (Currently Nokia Creative Studio only allows a maximum of 4 shots per panorama); anyways it’s a really cool app that you guys should check out. However it does claim it needs a gyroscope in the device and apparently the Lumia 800 doens’t have one (First I’m hearing of this); it’ll still works fine on it but supposedly it’ll give you better performance on a device with a gyroscope (Does the 900 have one?)
Also unfortunately this is yet another app to be added on the list of things that won’t run on the Lumia 610; I’m honestly having a very hard time finding a “selling point” of this phone as it’s priced similar to the Lumia 710 and in some areas even more expensive, yet the 710 a better camera, more Processing power and more available applications. I know the number of apps that won’t work isn’t THAT serious; but I feel like Nokia kinda shot themselves in the foot with this one as it throws away half the reason they went to WP; EcoSystem.
Anyways go ahead and download it for you non 610 Lumias here:

710 n 800 didnt have the gyroscope but 900 has one… so it should work better on 900 than on my 710
Waiting for some Lumia 810 – with gyroscope, FFC, WP8… you know. :-/
Really liking this app…was gonna demo it this morning but been feeling ill all day.
Was annoyed i couldn’t find it at marketplace. had to do remote install from web. Maybe it restricts 800 as it doesn’t have gyro.
Weird, I found it as soon as I scanned the QR cod; want me to shoot a quick- non lumiappaday for it?
Did a quick recording outside just after I left comment. I wish I saw your comment/video before that though. How on earth did you record that with your iPad? I tried to use N9 but it was wobbling like hell. I ended using my 60D to record which was more of a pain than I thought it would be too as my tripod was getting stiff and it wouldn’t rotate when I needed it. hah.
For some reason QR code scanning wasn’t working earlier but now it does. ho hum.
Whoops! It was difficult using the iPad but in the end I grasped it from the top (in landscape) and moved them, it would be much simpler if its camera was deterred farther than in the corner. Anywyas the iPads autofocus really helps out a lot, didn’t have to even use the tap to focus.
Ha, no worries, it was a really useful demo so good on ya.
Focus was okish on N9 but being so small it was rather wobbly and exposure was a little off. Hopefully we can get an updated demo on this from the 900 to see how much better it would be if it had the gyro.
N9 works well when you sue the tap to focus, but that’s difficult to do one handed.
Yeah 900 updated demo would be cool (Stormtrooper MIGHT arrive tomorrow)-depends if it’s been shipped yet.
I wasn’t able to find it in the morning, but was successful recently. The apps are rolled out in ca. 24hrs time window in the Marketplace.
Love this app! Have been snapping pics all day now
The lack of the gyro does spoil things somewhat thou. If you try to make a proper 360 degrees panorama, its hard/impossible to do so.
I for one could not do so. Aiming the camera upwards causes the app to get confused. :S
Also, if anyone wants to see all that this application can do, you could also go to photosynth.com…some amazing photos uploaded there.
Yes, Lumia 900 has a gyroscope.
Lumia Pureview+WP8+Photosynth = Best Photos Ever!

I agree, Lumia 610 yet does not make THAT much sense. It seems to have more expensive chassis and buttons than the 710 too. But once we see this base-spec on 500 level devices it should make more sense. On the other hand, Lumia 710 is indeed very good value for money. Very good.
I am now really unhappy about getting the 610. I got the 610 as it looked nicer than the 710 in my opinion the cost difference is not that great as pointed out.
I think this is a bad call on MS/Nokia’s part. These apps are very popular and will damage the brand as more and more people see that they cannot use them.
What is the point if most of the new/funky/cool/crazy apps just don’t work on your new phone.
I tried the app on my Omnia 7, which doesn’t have a gyroscope. It still works, but is way less accurate and stitched panoramas are rather imperfect. Nevertheless, the panorama is generally clear apart from some badly stitched areas. Impressive.
Also, my friend’s Lumia 900 (which has a gyroscope) makes seamless spherical panoramas. Looks perfectly like the way you would see it first-hand. So the gyroscope is really useful to make the images integrate better.
