Symbian Apps: Vimeo demoed on the Nokia N8, available at Nokia Store

| June 2, 2012 | 31 Replies

Camb078 demoes the official Vimeo app. Some bits look like an app, other bits look a bit like a mobile site.

I can’t seem to find a link at the moment at Nokia Store. Searching for ‘vimeo’ says not available :/

  1. nokia destroys itself says:

    n9 version please

    • James says:

Coulda sworn there was a +1 from another user in response to this.
But it seems to have disappeared? Weird…
Agreed it was responding an off-topic post, but we’re not doing deletions on this basis alone are we?
At least that never seems to have been Jay’s prior viewpoint.

Love the ui of this app

  3. Madratz says:

I’m puzzled.. Why would anyone still want to develop an app for a dying platform.

    =P

    /S

    • lordstar says:

Haha maybe it’s in conjunction with the launch of pureview? I’m actually somehow expecting a bunch of new apps for Symbian ’cause of the 808.

      • Madratz says:

Keeping fingers crossed the 808 would bring about such scenarios.. Hail the 808..!!

      • dss says:

Ya, that might be it.. there will be tons of videos on Vimeo taken with the 808. People did all kind of amazing things with the N8.. I am sure this will continue with the 808.

  4. Maybe says:

    WoW
    Symbianappaday
    ^_^

  5. BENJIMOLA says:

this is where the beautiful lumia 900 design came from… though looking at the N8 its ugly phone but I have to thank it so much for giving birth to my Lovely Lumia 900… Nice app though.

    • Maybe says:

N8 then it turns to N9
then stolen by Lumia 900 as well

      • Oh Hei says:

Maybe – How can Nokia steal its own design? Lol!

Bottom line, the shells used for the 800/900 will forever only be associated with the Lumias – accept it!

        • James says:

Not forever, there’s room to concede that the N9 was the progenitor, there’s no harm in that.
No need to be troll-ish like that just because the prior poster was, we’re all Nokia fans after-all.

    • James says:

Thanks Jay for mixing-it-up some more again…
We know WP’s the primary platform, but WP’s been a hard-focus from arguably a little bit too early on.
By about now it’s getting understandable….
But even so, it’ll be some time before WP devices/usrs strongly outnumber S^3+Maemo/MeeGo ones.
We know it’s not easy, as you don’t have a working Sym ph anymore, let alone one of the recent ones.
And your N9′s not your primary phone, & you have limited time etc.
So thanks for doing what you can, it is appreciated.

      • mee-gone says:

@james: Who are you to decide whats too early or late? blind meego fans like you are spoiling this blog, its a dead platform and no amount of crying and trolling will bring it back. It would be best if nokia also uses some brain and start making android devices which will ensure excellent sales.

        • KF says:

blind people like you are spoiling this blog

        • James says:

The irony of you regularly calling me a blind MeeGo fan seems to be lost on you.
All you ever bleat about is how awesome Android is, & that it’s the only thing out there PERIOD.
          For your information: I like/used Android, I like/use iOS, I like/use Maemo/MeeGo, I like/used WP & various other OS’s.
Android I’ll be picking-up actively again soon, & maybe WP at the end of the yr, but it’ll have to be very impressive.
And I won’t give Nokia a free pass, they’ll have stand out amongst the other WP competitors BIG TIME.
Defending a platform from FUD/misinfo. does not automatically make anyone a fanboy.
You don’t seem to be able to understand that concept…

    • SLAYER says:

      the n8 is ugly??? wow

    • stylinred says:

      ugly… Wtf

  6. Rafaelinux says:

Lol. I came and the only thing I see is “ASS” (Culo) in the main page of MNB, haha.

    • stylinred says:

i thought the app was silly (i think there was a demo for it originally) but i forgot about it… and after seeing this video i went and paid for the app….. boy do i wish i could have a refund….. what a waste

  9. schwermetall says:

I’ve waiting a long time for this app.
    Great !

  10. JGrove303 says:

Thanks for pointing this out, Jay. Vimeo is the only way to share videos without silly quality destroying compression and this is a way legit app. Nokia has posted a ton of vids on vimeo in the past. YouTube is good for basic shit, but when quality matters, Vimeo.

  11. stylinred says:

got the app its excellent! quite impressive

  12. rishabh says:

Vimeo site has been blocked in India few days back by the court.
this app would help to access it

  13. DrDark says:

What I want to know is what happened to the N9 Vimeo app? [You could see its icon in loads of promotional material up to release]

This app’s very good [and was "outed" months ago BTW on the product page for the 808 on Nokia's site, along with a couple of others - go take a look]. One silly bug though: if you launch it in landscape, it throws a wobbly and squashes itself into “splitscreen mode” size.

    • James says:

      @DrDark

There was originally a Vimeo app coming for the N9?
I had no idea about that, how unfortunate :(
Nokia has pared-back many of the things it promised for the N9.
(one example is we still hear nothing about Nokia Car Mode)
That’s doing lots of damage when it comes to good will towards them.
