Here’s another look at the unannounced WP8 Lumia proto that was demoed at WP8 launch. Note the positioning of ambient light sensor/FFC is different to the one we saw yesterday.

As pointed out in the last comments, this still has the old Windows style button and not the new Windows icon.

It’s rather uninspiring. It has a plug attachment at the bottom. It has all been at the top for Nokia so far.

Check out the one from yesterday’s post. It seems to have tapering edges.

Prototype in a shell. I wouldn’t bother much around design of this thing Jay. :)

    • DesR85 says:

Same. Not something to be loosing sleep over as it is a prototype device. I’m sure Nokia would release a better looking phone for WP8. ;)

  2. dsmobile says:

That has nothing to do with Nokia’s next WP8 phone. Next phone will look about same as Lumia 900 but better design.

    • KF says:

any new design in the work?? the N9 design is getting old now, or they are trying to be Apple-ish?? (same designs over and over again)

      • dsmobile says:

there is no need to for new design for high end that would cost money to make as they now have this uni-body setup for making.

      • Windows Phone sucks says:

They should keep the N9 design but with removeable/replaceable battery.

        • dsmobile says:

removable battery is not future design. Just forget about that and hope that battery inside just has more juice.

Removable battery is not coming back as it make design more difficult and makes device bigger and pirate batteries are big issue.

Hate the design and build quality. :|

    • Peter says:

It’s a reference device, not a finished consumer product.

It’s also quite a bold statement to judge build quality based on few blurry photos :D

  4. Gäst says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s really almost that thick and it’s an intel phone.
Since Microsoft love intel and i think we will see an intel based phone with WP8.

  5. Sean says:

USB at the base of the phone???……..could open up to a whole range of docking stations scenarios

    • Zipa says:

Not USB, it’s mini-HDMI for the video-out feature required for those demo presentations. At least that’s how it was with the old demo devices.

  6. Zipa says:

It’s not an unannounced proto. It’s a developer/demo device for WP8, just like the one Samsung made for WP7.

  7. Windows Phone sucks says:

    No removeable battery.

    No bluetooth file transfer.

    Same old boring Tiles/Metro UI.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Isn’t this the same comment over and over again that you so enjoy spamming?

I have no problem with the sealed battery in N9. Do you?
And unfortunately for you, it’s not the same tiles. It’s refreshed.
As for BT transfer, well we don’t know either way about that.

      • prashant says:

now nfc is there then any dev can easily write code for bt file transfer.

      • Carbontubby says:

I *do* have a problem with the sealed battery in the E7 and N9 ;)

They’re not completely sealed in because you can take those phones apart to change the battery when the capacity drops after a year or two. Still, if the 808 and the Galaxy S3 have stiff shells even with removable battery covers, why can’t Nokia do this with its other phones?

  8. DreXter says:

    nice

  9. Ritesh says:

what paper is he holding in the 1st pic?

    • Jabbara says:

      NFC- tag vcard I suppose.

    • DesR85 says:

If I recall from watching that Windows Phone Summit video a few days ago of Belfiore (the guy holding the card next to the phone) demonstrating the phone’s NFC capabilities, he mentioned that it is a card with an NFC tag embedded in it.

  10. Jules says:

Is it a PureView ? kind of N8 size camera or bigger.

    • ms.nokia says:

thats what i was thinking, the camera lens looks big,
maybe thats why the case is deep, to cover the bulge.

  11. sowed says:

the N9 design is perfect. It just needs to be slimmer and use 16:10 aspect ratio so dat the device is a bit wider and not just tall. The screen should reach as near the edges as possible at all 4 sides. And ofcourse being Nokia, it shd hav an N8 equivalent camera.

  12. migo says:

I’d like to see the headphone jack off centre. I don’t care if it’s top or bottom, just that it’s not in the middle – it makes it inconvenient to hold in landscape. The iPhone and iPod touch have a pretty ideal placement there.

  13. Sartaz says:

I think that is an lcd (can be ips) but definitely not amoled. Would like to see a true rgb 720p amoled from nokia rather than pentile amoled like s3. What do other people think ?
