Video: PocketNow’s Nokia 808 PureView ReView

| July 24, 2012 | 22 Replies

I thought we had already covered pocketnow’s 808 review but apparently not.

Well here it is, 11 minutes of 1080p HD Nokia 808 PureView review.

The Nokia 808 PureView — winner of the GSMA Global Mobile Awards 2012 and 2012 TIPA Award for Best Imaging Innovation — shocked everyone at this year’s Mobile World Congress with its 41-megapixel camera sensor. Many understood the PureView Technology from the very beginning while others were simply considering it overkill. Nokia wanted to come up with a worthy successor to the Nokia N8, former King of Camera-phones, and the Finnish company believed that the 808 PureView would be just that.

However, straight from the beginning, the 808 PureView raised eyebrows because of the platform used to operate it: Nokia (ex-Symbian) Belle. Windows Phone couldn’t have been a choice at the moment because of its camera restrictions and MeeGo was sort of abandoned at birth by Nokia. Despite Nokia Belle, is the 808 PureView worth purchasing? And, are we crowning a new King of the Camera-phones? Watch our full review to find out!

Bought it, love it as my smartcamera. Its worth the money to see those picture I’ve just taken and show them to Android users.

Microsoft has cancelled all vacations to get any bugs out of win8. Dedication.

I like the style of the review by Anton. To be expected, Symbian trashed in YouTube comments.

    • shallow ocean shoal says:

Many of the Symbian complaints are legitimate

stylinred can comment on this – he knows the phone is chock full of bugs.

Nokia has got very powerful weapons than anyone. As we came to know about pureview as surprise!!!

Also build quality has no comparisons.

Waiting for windows 8 with pureview.

  4. torpedu says:

I really like this review, not looking very much for the bad but for the good of the phone which is well demonstrated and explained… thanks for sharing Jay

    Solid device :)

  8. Paul Grenfell says:

I wouldnt swap my my 808 for a Lumia at the moment, thats for sure..I repeat, there is nothing wrong with Belle FP1 on the 808..

    • shallow ocean shoal says:

Paul, you know that is not a completely truthful statement. I can say from my own experience that I have experienced problems with refreshing email on Belle FP1 on 808.

Check the Nokia discussions to see other Belle FP1 issues.

Not a neutral review, the reviewer clearly seen as an apple fan boy. He can say whatever he wants, Nokia 808 PureView is a great device!!! It does no deserve a low score, it deserves a 8.5 or more!!

    • Ali Abdulla says:

the score can be up to debate.

but the review was really well done, and unbiased.
if i was him, i’d bash the browser more, and mention how its an embarrassment for a 2012 Smartphone.
not even comparable to the the n900′s, remind me how many years have passed since then?

so yeah, symbian fans can go all day and night praising symbian(and i love symbian myself). but at the end of the day, it dosent deliver browser wise. and no, opera mobile although alot better, is also not up to what u expect on iphone, andriod, windowsphone or even meego?(im scared to check a bada demo , and find out the browser is also leaps ahead of symbian).

i know creating a browser is not an easy task, but when i c the sheer amounts of good browser in andriod, it makes me wonder how couldnt nokia come up with a good one, with all the time and resources they had, its just crazy.
so thank you default browser for killing symbian, if i can uninstall u from my N8, i’ll do it instantly :S. /spit

      • Paul Grenfell says:

Yes, the Browser is the biggest shortfall, but thankfully Opera have helped in this area. The 808 will be my last Nokia, so im not too concerned.. There will never be another 808 with 41mp camera. Not even Lumia will come with that.
Im open minded for my Next.. Could be SGS, BB10, IP5 ,HTC but Jolla excites me greatly. Plenty of time to enjoy my 808 while waiting.

        • ZeroSub says:

          opera is the same shit
in some places its even worse than the default browser
so yeah browsing on symbian sucks

  10. NicKel says:

As far as I can see, purple tint is still an issue w/ some of 808′s amoled panel :-(

  11. torcida says:

    microSD support up to 64GB!!!

  12. LudwigVan says:

Well, bought the 8078 for my wife. We have it now since day one. I miss NOTHING for everyday use. Phone is clear, reception is perfect, Belle has some tweaks which others do not have and all necessary apps are running smooth and good.

Camera is best ever. Replaced most cameras we use at home except for the DSLR from Nikon.

The only thing why I do not buy it straight away for my self is that it does not support multiple google-calendars. But who is using this featur to such an extend?

I would always recomend it. Hear me? ALWAYS!!!
