Whatsapp Back in WP Marketplace; Loads of Mini Changes in Tow
After about a week of going MIA Whatsapp is back on the Windows Phone Marketplace with a nice changelog of minor fixes; and in case you were inclined to believe the rumors, don’t worry It’s still free (Yay!).
As there’s no official changelog this is based on what I’ve experienced:
- MUCH MUCH smoother (the whole phone feels smoother, I think Whatsapp was eating too much ram)
- New shortcuts in active chats to create groups, Search for contact and edit status
- Search function under favorites & all
- New animations when opening chats
- Somehow Whatsapp is acting as media/music meaning you can access it from the drop down volume control bar (icon is the same as the radio/streaming icon)
I think it’s possible that whatsapp was causing some issues with the latest update on the Lumia 900 as mine was seriously buggy after the Software update; but now everything is smooth sailing; if you’ve noticed anything else let us know down below.

We want this shit on our Nokia N9 Officially. Do something Nokiablog.
No “we” don’t. “We” don’t need yet another prorietairy protocol, especially since the N9 supports XMPP out-of-the-box (ok, with a bit fiddling) *with* encryption, which Whatsapp still lacks.
Incredible! You buy a phone knowing that its OS is dead and you still come here asking for more apps? Did you really expect developers to lose their time making apps for dead OSs? Come on, no one forced you to buy the phone, you knew that the OS was dead and you still bought it… it’s your fault so don’t complaine!
^This!
well apart of the promise of continues support for 2015 , Yes the OS was dead , but the Nokia N9 isn’t dead , in fact I miss using it now I could cry .Although am on Nokia 808 and have an Android Tablet I still think Nokia N9′s os to be the most alive platform ever . the only thing that is dead is developers idiocy. if you think about it developing for OS’s such as Nokia N9 is much more profitable than doing so for Android or Apple cause products will get lost in the crazy shit of useless apps that Are the Android Market (and IOS but IOS is better to be fair)
If developers put half the effort they would spend on an Android app(Specially the effort of insuring it works on a gazillion phones) into developing Nokia N9 apps they’ll get an edge in the Nokia N9 store that they won’t get it cheaply in Android and IOS stores . They can benefit greatly from the Nokia N9′s simplicity in App designs (where you don’t have to worry about back or home or settings buttons )
They will get access to the settings menu making Apps feel as Native as they can get which is something to die for in Android Apps..
Most of all there apps will run smoothly for a longer periods of time because the Nokia N9 has the habit of being a true multitasker OS.
They still need to learn to develop for a new platform, whereas once they have the tools and skills for Android and iOS built up, they can keep churning out variants and updates to now end.
Second, Nokia never promised to bring 3rd party apps to the N9 as part of the promise for ongoing support – have not seen that 2015 date before though – where did you see that?
“They still need to learn to develop for a new platform, whereas once they have the tools and skills for Android and iOS built up, they can keep churning out variants and updates to now end.”
As a developer for those platforms & harmattan that seems like total *fail logic* to me.
“Second, Nokia never promised to bring 3rd party apps to the N9 as part of the promise for ongoing support”
Rubbish, they most certainly did!
“- have not seen that 2015 date before though – where did you see that?”
Please, you had to have seen it, they bleeted it out constantly, mainly in Q3 & Q4 last year, & we’ve not seen them adjust it officially since.
Are you confusing Symbian with Meego? when the N9 was released (already dead) they made it clear that there was no plan to commit to Meego in any shape way or form (they didn’t even mention the release of PR1.2 at the MWC keynote).
Symbian on the other hand was promised developer and app support till 2016.
Absolutely not, they committed to support till 2015, on the 3rd-party dev side of things not so much, but in terms of support, 2015.
I misread this sentence:
“Second, Nokia never promised to bring 3rd party apps to the N9 as part of the promise for ongoing support”
AS
“Second, Nokia never promised to bring 3rd party apps to the N9″
I wouldn’t expect aggressive 3rd-party app support to be ongoing ofc.
Nokia promised updates till 2015 and its also mentioned in “About Product” in settings.
“Nokia promised updates till 2015″
Yes, I know.
yeah, i knew that the OS was dead but i got mesmerized in her beauty. Yeah.. Its my fault but still no regrets and i pity Nokia for such a shame that gave us.
Yeah like really now, who cares how advanced the N9 is if you don;t even make use of those features!!! WE WANT WE USE AND WHAT WE USE IS WHATSAPP!! SIMPLE!! It’s such seemingly petty issues that will cause Nokia to perpetually lose market share! Bought The N9 for my little sister nw she’s sad and wont stop asking me when she’s gonna get whatsapp. Unless this is resolved i’m honesty not buying another Nokia again and won’t encourage anyone to either. It’s really disappointing for a phone in this day and age to fail when it comes to the basics. I have been an extremely loyal nokia fan and user, but from henceforth… I don’t know anymore
It does have Whatsapp unofficially, however because the company’s changed their registration process you now can’t register on-device. There are solutions in the Wazapp thread on talk.maemo.org.
Tnx Conor. I actually did download Wazapp but it cannot register, when i try to get the 3 digit code it keeps says ‘server said: fail too-many’ do you know what the problem could be? and this has been happening for weeks, so i can download it, but cannot register.
There is actually a fix for that….
One just needs to know how to do their homework/research in the relevant thread/sub-forums at TMO.

Funny, N900 was more-or-less “dead” the minute it launched…
Yet it continued to have a vibrant community for yrs after it was released, still does today.
And Harmattan is quite a few notches above that so….
For technically clued-up people, Maemo5x/6x (Harmattan) are more than good enough platforms.
But I agree, people shouldn’t be whining in this thread about the lack of official Whatsapp support.
Get a clue people, pop over to TMO, do your homework & you’ll be running a unofficial version (which has been evolving very quickly until recently) in no time.*
I personally am not a huge fan of services like Whatsapp, there are better alternatives from a technical & ethical standpoint.
But at least it’s available for those who dont understand or care about the technical/ethical considerations.
*I was able to, & I’m not even interested in the app!
The last feature you mention, media streaming, now allows wifi to stay connected when the phone goes to sleep. The best feature in this update as wifi is better on battery than 3g 4g.
Are you sure?? if so that’s awesome! finally a way to keep WiFi on
I read it on WPCentral and tested it myself and it works. Wifi stays ON!!!
is it possible to deactivate whatsapp from the drop down volume control bar ?
uhhhh actually its not entirely our fault. I mean who would hve thought that the phone can’t load whatsapp?

It’s working bad on my 800 :/
It goes slower than before, freezes and it’s affecting the general phone performance. Just the opposite of what you say :S
I wish I could get the ancient version again…
