Viber Coming to S40 & Symbian + HD Video Calling for WP
![]()
Viber, a VOIP for chat, pictures and video that’s a popular alternative to Skype has officially announced that they’re working on a version for Symbian as well as S40. Also announced is an upcoming update to Viber for WP that will bring support for 720p Video Calling (currently no video calls are supported for WP in the current version of Viber- not even Non-HD). In case you’re wondering the Lumia 900 doesn’t support 720p out the front, but hopefully that’ll all change in the next iteration come next week.
Thanks for the tip KF

I know this isn’t Viber-related but I just need to post this somewhere many non-9gaggers would see.
Has Apple really ever invented anything?

That’s a Windows app. An XCode clone. But go ahead, ALL IDE’s are square windows, right, and you can use the mouse and click and type in them so it’s COMPLETELY a coincidence when some IDE ends up looking like XCode, OS X style and all, on WINDOWS.
Yep. Derp derp indeed.
shit! still no video support for symbian?
Cool. I hope that this also means video calling for Symbian (N8)
Fring does Video calls.
Fring!!!!!?
i just wish they have atleast audio calling support for symbian version….
My friend was just doling out his pity that i had a ‘Nokia’ and no Viber…going to give him a call soon hopefully
Great news, I use a Nokia C3 and I would be very delighted to have Viber.
Why no N9 ?
1) Dead OS;
2) Very few users;
3) It’s nor profitable to develop for it.
diasgreed!
*rolls-eyes* There’s no need to be an ass-hole/smart-ass with your response.
N9 users have a right to be interested/concerned about on-going support.
It’s not trolling, even if you may see it that way with every post.
Lol, nobody is asking for your opinion, WP fanboy
If Viber brings in Video calling support to atleast Symbian 3 devices, then its time to ditch SKYPE.
Yes! I would love to ditch Skype – they can’t be bothered to support video calling for Symbian, its pathetic. So many users requested it. When companies like Fring and Viber can do it, how hard can it be for them??
why not using fring
NICE!! now i can make a free call xD
“currently no form of video calls are support for WP at all”? means? =..=
Wrong. There is the Tango video calling app.
Sorry, my bad the post wasn’t clear; I meant to say no form of video call through Viber is possible- not even non-HD)
Great to see S40 getting more app support from developers! Perhaps Nokia made the right call (!) after all.
I’m starting to think that too!
developers supporting s40 because Nokia supports s40
developers supporting WP because Nokia supports WP
Now fill in the blanks
developers supporting __ because Nokia supports __
To get developers attention and support an OS has to properly supported and pushed by a major OEM, not the other way round.
The link to the official statement is broken.. anyone has another one ?

I think the article is not correct so techcrunch just decided to delete it. There’s no link to official statement from viber about support for symbian or s40
where u found this news? is that real? i hope so!
S40? Omaygad :O Fantastic
I think this is fake. viber is only supports voice and text messaging and there is no support for video calling even for android and ios.
something is wrong here.
viber has said the support of symbian long time ago. Where is the beta version for symbian now?
Well, viber is my hope of getting video call on symbian.
Have you tried Fring for video call?
poor nokia can not get skype(voice call) on asha and video call skype on belle!
heres a viber related thread where a viber dev was trying to reply to users.

Viber is awesome!
It’ll be pretty great if they release it for Symbian, it’s a dead platform but it still has millions upon millions of users.
it wouldn’t have been dead if nokia pushed more support for symbian :/ look how long viber got to symbian :/
Viber for Symbian

why i cant download viber on nokia x2-01 huuh
There are only a few models that are supported for Symbian OS. Of the all listed in the Ovi store only about 2% actually support Viber.
how to download it ???
