New City Lens Integrated Map/Viewfinder screen in 720 promo? (Feature soon to be integrated into HERE maps)

Screen Shot 2013-03-05 at 10.36.30Our own Peter Lackman noticed this new feature in the Nokia Lumia 720 advert where it appears City Lens map is integrated into the viewfinder.

Now City Lens is already pretty awesome in the way it modifies what you see based on HOW you hold  your Lumia. Sideways horizontal you get the viewfinder, flat you get a map, portrait you get a list of places. Neat, contextual UI. Now looking above, you can see in portrait view a mix of viewfinder and map, something that’s also very useful as you see where you’re going and the map location around you.

Currently my City Lens or Maps app doesn’t do that. I’m not sure if I’m missing something here if this was already announced or already available somewhere in settings?

I could imagine it as a neat way of having walk directions where bits pop out at you on the screen (augmented reality style) showing you what’s what whilst you’re walking to your destination (plus big arrows left/right/straight ahead)

Update: Michael says it’s LiveSight which was already announced at MWC. Apologies for missing that :/

Cheers Peter for the tip!

Cheers Pino for the update:

It’s a feature for Here Maps.

I seem to have total amnesia about this video. The end bit reminds me of the new Sim City :D.
