Hands on Gallery of the Nokia Lumia 1020 in Yellow – with wrist strap/lanyard
Let’s take a look at the Nokia Lumia 1020 in yellow.
At the bottom of the Nokia Lumia 1020, you’ll notice immediately that there’s a wrist strap attached. Perfect for such a camera centric device so you it’s more protected from unwanted drops. I’ve been a fan of this since my Nokia 7610 all the way to N8 and 808.
There’s a microUSB port and a speaker port. You’ll notice that instead of one on either side like with the 920, it’s just on the right (we’ll share more comparisons soon).
Interestingly, one of the two microphones used for stereo recording is inside this grille. Pretty neat. It’s also a lot slimmer on end vs 920.
The side is uniform to Nokia Lumia. Camera button, lock button and volume rocker.
At the top, you have one of the microphones, the 3.5mm jack and the SIM tray. I like that the dot for the pinhole of the SIM tray is equidistant to the microphone hole.
There’s nothing on the other side. All flush.
The back is the new front.
Huge camera at the back. LED for video and AF or even photo flash apparently. Xenon flash for freezing those moments and also as fill light when there’s strong light behind your subject and of course the 41MP camera.
Note the two dots as well for optional wireless charging.
The yellow and other available colours (black and white) are in a matte finish. It’s that same original polycarbonate feel that gives better grip. I remember a video we posted where part of it involves sanding down of the gloss. A lot of you were big fans of the matte.
It should also mean that any fine scratches will be even less noticeable.
Here’s the 1020 dangling from the wrist strap. Obviously the strap would be around your wrist and not hanging precariously over a finger.
Here’s the strap itself
Gorgeous, popping AMOLED screen at the front. Gorilla Glass 3, curved screen.
920 photobombs this picture. Not yet, 920. Behave!
Very comfortable to hold in the hand.
Closer view on the hump. It’s deceptively well done to have just that tiny slip of black.
Being slimmer as well as lighter helps too
Laying on a flat surface. The hump raises the 1020 up at an angle.
I think this means the camera portion doesn’t make contact with the surface? I don’t think that’s a feature.
It looks super sleek from here. Imagine a version which was this thickness all the way through (one not for camera enthusiasts)
Inspecting the hump in various angles
The curve on that screen is gorgeous.
Right, so that’s it for now. Going to do a bit of packing as I’m heading back to Manchester today. But if I’ll get time I’ll see what I can post.
