Lumia 920 With Extra Column of Tiles Shows Up on Beta Build of GDR3

BZHG9XVIQAAOCPcWhen GDR3/Update 3 was released through the enthusiasts program, some were disappointed to find out that it didn’t bring the third column of live tiles to any of the currently available devices. The first device to debut with this third column of medium sized tiles was the 1520 back at Nokia World, but we’ve heard that the extra row of tiles should be coming to other devices as well in a future update. There has been a lot of speculation whether the third row of columns is dependent on the screen resolution, or screen size dependent (logically it should be resolution dependent).

It seems the third option of columns was initially present in internal beta builds of GDR3, and was pulled before release for reasons unknown. Hopefully though we won’t have to wait too long to see it on our own devices.

Thanks for the tip Alvester

When the Update3 is coming to our Lumia??

  2. Paul says:

    Q1/2014 with Nokia Black.

  3. Patata says:

It depends on Screensize, mit Resolution and we already know that it is for large (>5″) screen devices only. MS has already confirmed it, and the registry entry to enable the third row on Ativ S proofs this ;)

    • Iki says:

The Ativ S is a 4.8inc screen and it looks great. So this would look great on all devices with a hd screen like Lumia 920 and above.

Please for the love of God, can someone feed this back to MS and Nokia that there are lots of current users that really wanted this feature on our current devices with smaller screens. I really wish MS would let us, the user decide how to configure our screens… *sigh*

  5. Bazil says:

I would like that feature in smaller than 5” phones, but now that I see it I make up my mind. Too cluttered, ugly and ineffective. Better not give it to anything smaller than 5”.

  6. Pl4ub says:

Too small tiles and would look like a mess on my L920, no thanks. But some might like, but yeah, not going to happen <5" 720p…

    • Alex says:

You don’t have to use the small tiles. You could just have three columns of the medium-sized tiles or rows of wide+medium tiles.
