DSC03831Many of us expected to have to wait till early 2014 to get our hands on the Lumia Black software update, but surprisingly it’s already available for some; those some being Lumia 1020 At&t owners. The update comes bundled with the GDR3/Update 3 from Microsoft which brings “X” to end apps and screen rotation lock; for those who didn’t jump on the developers preview option. The update should be available for anyone with an At&t 1020, by simply going to Settings> Phone Update > Check for Updates.

The Lumia Black part of the update also brings with it some goodies of it’s own, such as notifications on the glance screen (same shortcuts you’d have set on your lock-screen), bluetooth 4.0 LE support and most importantly a better camera performance.

Full changelog:

  • Daily delighters: lock the screen rotation, close apps easily in the app switcher, use custom ringtones for messaging and mail, among other things
  • Update to Nokia Camera that combines Nokia Smart Camera and Nokia Pro Camera. Available from the Store app.
  • Get the latest version of Nokia Glance Screen – see quick status notifications, for example, about calendar and messaging events on the lock screen.
  • Bluetooth 4.0 LE – preserve energy while staying connected via Bluetooth
  • Get enriched camera performance, enhanced battery monitoring, and other stability and usability improvements

So if you’re an At&t 1020 user, what are you waiting for! Get updating and report back in the comments section below!

Update:

Apparently T-Mobile Lumia 925’s are also receiving Lumia Black/Update 3; it should be available by the same process listed above (good luck!).
