WhatsappEarlier today Facebook announced that they reached an agreement to purchase the incredibly popular messaging service, Whatsapp for an insane 16 billion dollars (for those of you having difficulty imaging that sum, it’s a lot of money). This makes WhatsApp one of the most expensive software acquisitions ever, valuing it more than the GDP of whole countries (and 2.22 times more than Nokia’s D&S division).

Thankfully though Facebook have stated that similar to Instagram, Whatsapp will continue to function as a separate entity and WILL NOT have any in-service advertisements! hooray! As Facebook makes an even larger push towards mobile, perhaps this will help speed up the delivery of updates and services to Windows Phone? Fingers crossed.
